Four Daughters (1938) - The Lane Sisters with John Garfield and Claude Rains

Bright Leaf (1950) - Gary Cooper, Lauren Bacall, Patricia Neal, Jack Carson and Donald Crisp

OMG....I want all of those. You could literally spend thousands on these films which is why they should lower the prices.

re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

I am really excited about today's... I mean, yesterday's announcement, but there are a lot of films that I've never seen that I'm not sure if I want to spend $20 on sight-unseen. So I wonder...
Will these titles be available for rental on Netflix???

I think you will find that one or two stores, like MoviesUnlimited and CreepClassics, were offering "exclusive" discs by simply buying and reselling them. In the case of some of the Best Buy only ones, which were initially in-store-only, this meant the proprietors were quite literally visiting Best Buys and buying multiple copies.

This was deeply frowned upon by the stores in question, and was stopped - by limiting customers to only a few copies each, but I think they also contacted the mentioned stores and told them not to do it again, because later exclusives up for pre-order, were withdrawn.

In the case of MoviesUnlimited, it was not so, as the TCM page for the set took me right to the M-U website IF I recall properly. So there must have been some kind of an agreement there. What I am sure of is that I went on the TCM website to order the set and that it WAS possible to ship to Canada, whether it was actually through M-U or not.

Any chance to pay via PayPal for some that don't have a credit card? I think there should be alternate means for all!

re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

I had not checked the WBShop since yesterday, but I just noticed some titles which have been added since then:

Lots of early Katharine Hepburn:
Spitfire (34)
The Little Minister (34) - buying this one for sure!!!
Break of Hearts (35)
Christopher Strong (33)

Also Bright Leaf (50) with Gary Cooper

Perhaps there are more "recent" ones that I missed since the titles meant nothing to me.

I only brought it up once people were claiming some ordering anomalies. If anyone actually panics because of such a statement they need to R-E-L-A-X.

The number of titles has gone up from 140 to 150 and now 155.

re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

didn't they just revamp their site?

this thread is long, has any1 talked about replicating these titles to blu-ray? i never bought into DVD as a format in the first place.

re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

If these titles can't sell on DVD through normal replication/distribution a Blu-ray release is no where near plausible.

re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

i get all the logistics of why ($) but man it'd be awesome if they ever did that. =P. download and SD DVD is horrible quality =P

I think this initiative gives added weight to the opinion of those of us who think that Blu-ray will never totally replace DVD. More likely Blu-ray will stay a niche product concentrating on top sellers such as current films and those relatively few classics which sell in big numbers.

re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

I haven't tried to order anything yet. I know a number of people in the USA. I saw somewhere on their website (which does not stay in the cache) that the billing address must be the same as the credit card address. I have an AMEXCO card. When one orders, is their also a mail-address in addition to the billing address( or where to send it)?

It's the format, what is there to buy into?

If there is a questionable format... well that would be Bluray.

Yes, and it's still as slow and buggy as when WHV launched it.

re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

I was able to place two orders just fine. I'm so excited!!!! :-) The estimated delivery date is this Friday, but I doubt I'll get the discs then. Still, just knowing I have my place in line is great.

Give DVD another year or two, it might yet catch on.

Seriously though, if the studio doesn't think it would be cost effective to replicate these titles on DVD en-mass, you'd be lucky to see these on Blu in 10 years, if ever.

Although, thinking about it, if this is a way to get around low demand, then one would have to assume some kind of burn solution for Blu would address the same issue. The only real problem is that so much more of the catalog would have to be considered low demand, but the principle would still hold.

re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

Here are some titles I've wanted for a long time. Maybe with this On Demand thing they might actually get released.

Beyond the Forest (1949-Bette Davis)
The Boy Friend (1971-Twiggy-Ken Russell)
The Chapman Report (1962-Jane Fonda)
Claudelle Inglish (1961-Diane McBain/Arthur Kennedy)
The Cobweb (1955-Lauren Bacall/Richard Widmark)
Go Naked in the World (1961-Gina Lollobrigida/Anthony Franciosa)
In the Cool of the Day (1963-Jane Fonda/Angela Lansbury)
The Legend of Lylah Clare (1968-Kim Novak-Robert Aldrich)
Light in the Piazza (1962-Olivia de Havilland)
The Madwoman of Chaillot (1968-Katharine Hepburn)
Mary, Mary (1963-Debbie Reynolds)
Penelope (1966-Natalie Wood)
Sincerely Yours (1955-Liberace/Dorothy Malone)
Too Much, Too Soon (1958-Dorothy Malone)

George said the hugely ambitious goal is to make Warners' entire 5000-title catalogue, including hundreds of titles from MGM, RKO and other studios, available, a project that "may take 10 years to accomplish.'' He said the initial offering, which will be supplemented by at least 20 features each and every month -- around 450 are scheduled for the end of 2010 -- was chosen from among titles most requested by fans, as well as titles for which the studios has the good masters. "There's are at least a couple of thousand people who want each of these titles out there,'' he says,."And we wanted to put out titles that look as good as our regular commercial releases.''

I think the chat tonight will be really interesting

Maybe not Netflix, but ClassicFlix.com says they will be renting them out (they rent to U.S. only).

This is really good news. I hope that the archives include some of the Monogram Lugosi films that WB owns like VOODOO MAN and RETURN OF THE APE MAN. This may be the only way to get nice copies of some of these movies, so bring 'em on!

Try using the JavaChat instead of the web side.

What browser are you using? What OS?

Have you tried downloading an IRC client like mIRC for Windows or Snak for the Mac?
