Tell them the replacement disc has exactly the same fault as the original disc you received, and that the problem is most likely related to the incompetent authoring of the DVD. Then ask for a refund.

If nobody complains about this shoddy encoding, then they won't bother doing it properly.

I have asked for a refund. I did mention in my e-mail that it seemed to me that DVD was poorly authored, which is a shame because I have wanted this particularly title on DVD. I mentioned that it was not worth the twenty bucks paid and that I would think twice before buying again unless I had more confidence in the dependability of their product.

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

I did reorder the other day and it seems to have gone through. They did honor the code with no issue. But i havn't received any e mails for confirmation or for delivery with tracking yet. Customer service tells me my order is in the making of the disc process and should have been sent yesterday or today. Still no e mail or shipping confirmation though. The money did come out of my account a few days ago so hopefully my order is ok. Still it bothers me that WB phone customer service can't seem to give you any information on your order. They can't even confirm when it is being mailed out, according the the rep i spoke with yesterday. Very frustrating. If my order goes ok i will post.

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

Here is the e-mail response I received:

Hi xxxx,

The orders that have the Tarzan set on them are taking longer than usual to download into our system. Thank you for your patience.

The first response I got said there were delays with the downloads. I wrote back saying I was expecting DVDs not downloads and was then sent the above response

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

It must be a bitter-sweet experence to see one of you're favorite films on the Warner Archive list: as you then know that you're never going to get a proper disc of it!

Some folks seem to be extremely happy with them, so it's a "your mileage may vary" situation. Personally, I'm glad for those who are satisfied. As it stands right now, the program is not for me. Changes in price and encoding practices would turn me around, though.

I'm pretty sure the email is referring to their internal download processing of the order, not a consumer download.

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

I wonder when the next batch of releases will be posted on their site.

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

I reordered the Tarzan movies after i was told by WB customer service that my order was lost and not to worry about reordering. That was wednesday. Today i found my original order from the 7th was on my order history. I called customer service and was told that my original order downloaded today and that they already double charged me. Wonderful. They are going to recredit me for one of the orders but this is after being on the phone with them all week and being reassured that they wouldn't recharge me if the order did show up.That with take 24-48 hours to recredit my account. I am really going to have to rethink if i'm going to order again.

I just looked and my order (including the Tarzan set) is now in my order history. This after three times being told by customer service that the order wasn't in their system.

Once again, I have asked them to cancel this order. I regret giving them my credit card number after this fiasco.

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

I ordered Party Girl and Johnny Eager and received them less than a week later and a email that confirmed shipping. Watched all of Party Girl and checked out Eager and very pleased with both.

I'm hoping they start releasing TV series that would never get a release otherwise.

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

It would appear that their site crashed. Hardly an unforgivable sin. I work for a company involved in e commerce, and it can happen. With all that java on their site, I am hardly surprised.

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

I don't have an issue with the site crashing.I understand that can happen. My issue is with the lack of communication within the WB departments. If there was any communication maybe some of these issues could be resolved before they were problems.

That, imo says it all. We all understand that "gremlins" visit Net sites occasionally but the communication issue at the archive store is a real problem. That was an obvious problem when I talked with the CS Rep over the phone.

I'm wondering if these problems may be specifically related to that Tarzan set. It sort of seems to be the case from reading the thread lately. That's the only order I tried to place at the online store and I ran into the same kind of problems as most here with that item.

I'm still trying to decide if I'll try to order that set again next week. I won't use online ordering though, only by phone, at least until they correct some of the online ordering problems.

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

I look forward to the Archive titles being available from Movies Unlimited, reportedly as of July. MI may not offer discounts (although the preorder price for the first 150 titles seems to be $17.99 apiece), but they probably won't mishandle people's credit card orders, either. MI has been in business for a long time, and is a pretty well-oiled machine.

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

i too found that my original order finally showed up at the WB website, so I emailed them and told them to cancel my second order. I am also looking forward to TV series being released through this program. I would love more Cheyenne, some Sugarfoot, and other WB westerns. Plus their detective series- 77 Sunset Strip, Hawaiian Eye, Boubon Street Beat, etc. Do they own The FBI?

Do they offer free shipping over a certain amount?

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

I noticed that my order is finally going out on Monday via USPS first class mail, not UPS. Maybe this is good news for international customers.

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

I don't know if Movies Unlimited has a discount shipping policy or not. If they don't, maybe they can be talked into establishing one for the Warner Archive titles?

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

My question would be how durable are these burned discs compared to the
regular discs that are sold in a store. $19.95 is relatively expensive for a dvd
and I would hope the durability would be similar.

Also would it not be simpler to press a limited number of discs and sell them online? I see third party content dealers that deal in small pressings and they seem to be able to sell them at a decent price.

Also I see where they let you vote on what you would like to see in the Archives. What was disappointing was the choice of How Sweet It Is. While
I would like to see more of Garner's MGM comedies, I thought this was his weakest effort. Why they would choose this over films like Boys Night Out or
Wheeler Dealers is beyond me.

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

Well, to each his own, and BTW, Francis, that film just happens to be among my 'most wanted'. Think about that next time before you make a post. Maybe, unlike you, more people like How Sweet It Is! than those other two Garner films!

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

Most of the objective ratings books do rate Boys Night Out and Wheelers Dealers above How Sweet It Is. Boys Night Out seems to be the film that the most resources were put into. In addition to Garner, you have Kim Novak, Tony Randall, Howard Morris, Howard Duff and Patty Paige.

Again the question is how did they come up with How Sweet It Is? Did Warner select it or was it by request?

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

I don't recall anyone maintaining this, but according to TCM.com, the archive collection will be available for $17.99 on May 21/09. I don't know if this has changed since tcm uses movies unlimited. The archive collection is listed under the vault collection link.

At last there is hope for international customers. Now, if only these discs were progressively scanned and encoded properly.

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

Between the rumors of Movies Unlimited and Amazon, I'm starting to wonder what exactly is the difference between Archives and every other catalog release these days. Other than price and quality, of course. Add a few more online vendors and they might as well not bother pressing another catalog disc again.

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

Barker Tarzan Saga Cont.

I'll be a monkey's uncle (not that Disney movie, just me )

I've been checking my online CC acct occasionally since the Barker Tarzan issues developed and I now see an active charge for the original discounted amount for the Tarzan set. If I read the previous posts right, I guess Tarzan's in the mail. I can't check online though, since I ordered back on the 7th as a "guest" before creating an acct at the site.

On thing's certain, if they shipped, that's great...but what a 3-ring circus this is....I ordered, called, no record of the order, the original CC charge expired, now it re-appeared. I guess it's looking like "all's well that ends well". I guess I'll try calling Cust Svc tomorrow to see if they actually shipped.

I recieved my copy of Bank Robbery Collection yesterday and as I was watching "The Bank Robbery" I was thinking that this was the type of film that would now fit the Warner Archive and I was wondering how it and "The Great Bank Hoax" got a legitimate release. While I do enjoy The Great Bank Robbery (Kim Novak, how can you go wrong), it just seems a grade C film. Where there are so many WA movies that are much better. The only good part is that it was a double feature for $13.00. I can only assume that that the two films were already too far along as a double feature to stop.

On the other hand, I read of the legitimate release of Ode To Billy Jo (I am from Mississippi and actally a lot of friends were extras) in April and now it seems to have disapeared. I guess it will be listed on WA soon. Since this was to be a single release, it would seem more of a film for WA.

Oh, well we will see what happens.

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

I notice on the TCM site that they are advertising the Archive discs as "rare treasures in authorized editions from the original masters." By "masters," they must be referring to the artists involved in the original productions, as the Archive discs I have are mostly from video masters 20 years old.

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

With the addition of Movie Unlimited and Amazon going to offer these DVDs, it seems that the program is more successful than anyone imagined. Before I make the next statement, I have say that I am very happy with the WA program and support it. But, now that the above two outlets are going to offer the WA discs, then I do think the end of the regular releases is over. I guess Woodstock and Zanbriskie Point will be among the last of the regular titles.

Re: Warner Archive Discussion Thread

I just wish that Warner would change the titles we can vote for, say, once a month? Or at least, give us more than four titles to choose from. Or better yet, solicit our requests directly from us!
