Hooking 2 speakers to TV

Thread Starter
Hello all,
I just found I have 2 book shelf speakers(they were part of an AIWA stereo sytem). I want to hook up these spekaers to my TV in the bedroom. I have Samsung LNA550 46" TV. Can I directly hook up these speakers to my TV? Where do the speaker wires connect to?

I primarily use this TV to watch From the Dish network receiver. Can I instead connect the speakers to the Receiver? Each speaker has 2 wires. How do I connect them?

Thanks,
chuck

Re: Hooking 2 speakers to TV

You need an amplifier to power the speakers. Some TV's (rare) have a built-in amp that can power external speakers. But you probably need to do like the rest of us and buy an A/V receiver.

Re: Hooking 2 speakers to TV

Sounds like you have a portable boom box system. Unless the AIWA receiver has some sort of input jack to hook it up to an external source (in this case your Samsung TV) you are not going to have much luck hooking the receiver up to your TV.

The cheapest under $100 solution to upgrade your sound would be to purchase a 2.1 or 5.1 self powered speaker system made for computers. I have been doing this for years with bedroom TV's and all you need is a TV that has an earphone jack. You can also connect other music sources like CD's and Ipods to the PC speaker system.
