Paypal/Ebay problem - anyone ever run into this?

I just sold a couple of items on ebay and was surprised that neither buyer had paid four days later. While poking around the original listings, it appears that both had paid via Paypal, but I have not yet 'claimed' my payment, and so the amounts have not shown up within Paypal.

So...I poke further, still within ebay, and find a link where I can claim my payment. I click on it and it takes me to a page where I can create a Paypal account.

Not knowing what else to do, I 'create' a new account, using identical info as the account I already have. I click OK, and it tells me I am already registered under that account.

I go back, try to claim my payment again by clicking on the link, and now it takes me to the Paypal log-in page. I log in, access my Paypal account, and it still shows no payments received.

I've been an ebay member forever, and a Paypal member just as long. I've recently switched my email address, but I carefully checked both Paypal and ebay and they show the correct (current) address.

I'm going to ship the items tomorrow, since it's obviously not the buyers' fault, but I have no idea how to gain access to my money. (I've already emailed Paypal but have not received a response yet; I was hoping someone here would be able to offer a solution.)

I would appreciate any input (other than the inevitable ebay sucks/Paypal sucks/that's why I never use them rant).

Thanks,

Jon

Did they pay with a credit card while you only have a personal account?

Hmmm.....possibly.

If so, what should I do?

I'd give Paypal customer service a call and see if they can help you out.

Never heard of this before, but there's some info on this page:

How do I claim a paypal money payment from ebay? - Yahoo! Answers

If they paid by credit card and you only have a personal account, you may have to upgrade your Paypal account to accept credit card payments.

I would give paypal a call, not an email, a call to see what's going on.

Are you sure you didn't get sent to a spoof site?

Re: Paypal/Ebay problem - anyone ever run into this?

I've used Paypal for years and have never heard of this. When someone pays for something, the money is in my Paypal account right away (unless they pay by e-check, which takes a few days, but then shows up automatically).

That is the case whether selling through ebay or my own site.

I don't have to claim anything- never even heard that term used with Paypal, except the claim where someone reports a problem with a purchase.

Maybe there is some setting I haven't seen for this, but I can't see the point of it.

Does anything show up in your Paypal account? There should be some indication of those payments- even the echecks show up right away, just without the funds being available to me.

I thought that the personal accounts could accept a few credit card payments per year without being upgraded.

I'm very wary of any emails claiming to be from Paypal or ebay, since there is so much phishing, and some of the fakes look pretty good.

I would also be wary of shipping anything until I was sure I actually did get paid.

Have people paid you via Paypal before?

Problem solved.

Yes, you can accept CC payments on a personal account.

I recently changed my email address. I changed it both on ebay and Paypal.

However, when I listed each auction, my old email address was inserted as a default under the section indicating what payment methods I would accept.

Because this was buried way down the page, and I didn't read the listing carefully, the link that was sent after the auction ended included my old address.

Both buyers - who had already sent payment - had to cancel their payments and re-pay to my current email address. Luckily, both were very understanding.

Thanks to all who gave input.
