Re: HT on a small budget
Joe,What do you consider a small budget? When you say 'packages', I'm assuming you mean receiver and speakers together in one box (HTiB)?
The best HTiB right now are the ones from Onkyo. The best ones go for about $1000, acceptable ones between $600-700.
A step above HTiB would be a decent receiver like the Onkyo 606 and a 5.1 speaker package like the $899 SVS. Total would be around $1200-1400.
Prices go up from there... Let us know your budget and we can make more specific recommendations.
Re: HT on a small budget
Hi.....well I was thinking below $500.00 or less? Is there anything out there for that price? The way I see it anything is probably better than TV speakers. TY for the come back.

Re: HT on a small budget
IMO, the best budget system would be the Onkyo S5100 for about $400. The Onkyo S6100 can be found for about $600. Both of these systems come with decent receivers that make it easier to upgrade speakers in the future.

Re: HT on a small budget
As an alternative Ac4l.com/Onkyo has very good prices on refurbished Onkyo products, and they're an authorized dealer so you get a factory warranty. But they're running out of stock so you would have to act quickly. You could also get one of their refurb receivers for under $200 and add a small speaker system like the Polk RM6750. Most Onkyo HTIB's don't come with dvd players so you would have to get one if you don't already have one.
