Blu-ray to Projector AND Sound System?

Hi guys and gals,

I have done a Google search and nothing came up to answer my question, so I'll ask here.

I have a Panasonic Blu-ray player with one HDMI port. That is currently going into my Panasonic projector.

Now, how do I get sound from my Blu-ray player if I upgrade to an expensive sound system. I can't use HDMI, can I? Is there some sort of audio/video separator that will devide the signal into audio (to go to the projector) and audio (to go to the sound system)?

Right now I am using a little 2.1 analog sound system, but If I upgrade, I would want to use HDMI.

Thanks!

Re: Blu-ray to Projector AND Sound System?

Pretty simple really. You need to get a receiver with HDMI inputs. Run the HDMI cable from the Blu-ray player to the HDMI input on the receiver. Then run an HDMI cable from the HDMI output on the receiver to the HDMI input on the projector. Thats the easiest way I know of. Unless you were talking about something else and I misunderstood.

I guess I should have mentioned earlier. The HDMI cable carries both the video and audio signal.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if I needed to get another hardware piece, or if the receiver could carry the video through it.

Is there any quality drop when it goes through the sound system?

Not at all. You'll get the best signal with HDMI.

Re: Blu-ray to Projector AND Sound System?

Thanks. I will get this screen purchase out of the way later this week and then start researching receivers. I think I will then just buy two front speakers and buy the other four and a subwoofer later.

Is the function called 'HDMI pass through'?

Re: Blu-ray to Projector AND Sound System?

Yes, its called pass through. However, there are some receivers that will process the video, and some just "pass the signal through" to the projector(or tv). When you are ready to research for your receiver, go to the receiver and seperates section of the forum. You'll get lots of advice and help on what you need for your situation! Hope I've been able to help.

Thanks. You've helped me a lot. I was stressing that I bought the wrong Blu-ray player that couldn't support a projector and sound system at once!
