Question for JBL owners re: timbre matching

My current sound system uses older (like 15 years) JBL tower speakers for L/R. I have upgraded my center channel and surround over the years to the JBL "Northridge" series from a few years ago.

Now I'm looking for some bookshelf-sized speakers to replace the older tower speakers, but I'm not really wanting to replace my center channel, as it's only a few years old.

It's the JBL EC35 Center channel speaker. (5-1/4-inch shielded PolyPlas woofers; 3-inch shielded PolyPlas drivers; 3/4-inch shielded titanium-laminate dome tweeters.)

That said, as I'm sure you guys know, the EC line is no longer produced by JBL. As far as timbre matching, it looks to me like my best choice is probably the ES30 bookshelf speakers.

It appears to be the closest thing to the old "Northridge" line of speakers, as it has the same PolyPlas drivers and the 3/4 inch shielded titanium-laminate dome tweeters.

The L830 is another possibility, but it looks as if its high-frequency drivers are a bit different.

Anyone agree/disagree or have any additonal thoughts?

Re: Question for JBL owners re: timbre matching

Hi Jeff. The ES series would be the way to go to timbre match what you have. The ES line replaced the E line which replaced the Northridge line(which I have-ND310's and I love them). The L series replaced the former Studio line would probably be brighter sounding the the ES series if you were to mix them.

Excellent.

Thanks Gary... I thought that looked like the case, but wanted to be sure.

I have the same center and some older book shelves.

I did not know the EC line was no longer produced by JBL. When did this start? I normally buy speakers used from here or Ebay and I was hoping to eventually get them to all EC series.

Re: Question for JBL owners re: timbre matching

I think the ES line has been around for about a year. Before you get ready to shop, just go to the JBL online site and you can see whats available.
