Can you recommend a home theater mag?

Heyya, fellas. I'd certainly run to my local B&N or Borders and check out mags, but the closest one is an hour away.

I'm looking for a magazine that fits my wants. To summarize, I am nowhere near ready to build a dedicated theater, but I am in perfect position to learn (I have plenty of time). Some of the things I desire are:

-Photos for style ideas
-Building education
-Room sizing (acoustic purposes)
-Acoustic treatments
-Lighting recommendations
-Seating
-Technology (as with automated products such a lights, screen, etc)

Really this is a time for me to learn and gather ideas for the future. Product reviews aren't as important. It would keep me up on product technology, but I'm not looking for equipment.

Sorry for such a lame post, but since Home Theater Builder died out (as far as I know), I'm not sure which magazine to which I should turn.

Thanks!

Re: Can you recommend a home theater mag?

Home Theater Magazine has a nice Audio/Video Interiors section that might interest you but I suggest you browse the other magazines on-line issues to get a first hand look. Most have their prior issues available for on-line viewing.

Re: Can you recommend a home theater mag?

Unfortunately, since HTB went down, none of the magazines really focus on the building aspects of HT. They're all still mostly about equipment reviews and articles. As mentioned, Home Theater Magazine does have a middle section devoted to showcasing 2 or 3 random home theaters. Sound and Vision also does a pretty good job of occasionally having articles on the various aspects of building a theater.

Here's a link to a free subscription to Sound and Vision:

In my opinion a magazine is a waste of time. The Dedicated Home Theater section at AVS Forum is much better than any magazine I have ever read and I did buy a couple of HTB issues. There are hundreds of theater build threads there that will take you from design, through construction to finishing.

Re: Can you recommend a home theater mag?

I thought I might get an answer like that, Robert. I guess I was looking for something to read while in my library (the bathroom). Sometimes reading online is like searching for the needle of information for which one may be looking. I grabbed the S&V free sub. and I'll continue my forum reading.

Thanks, fellas.

If anyone has any other online links, even as simple as home theater galleries for design ideas, lay them on me!

It's also hard to surf AVS while on a plane or lying in bed. 90% of my info comes from the dedicated HT forum, but magazines certainly have their place.

Re: Can you recommend a home theater mag?

I've been trying to find a program to download a bunch of threads from a forum to read off-line on those long plane rides.

I can easily surf in bed with my laptop.

I can see where the library would be easier with magazines. I have dozens of them in each bathroom in the house but not a single one deals with home theater or audio.

Re: Can you recommend a home theater mag?

I've never looked at a copy Of Home Theater Builder but I think I'll start looking for an old copy when I'm browsing flea markets this summer.

As for other magazines Widescreen review is the best over all to me. But it doesn't cover Theater building. There are a couple of British imports ($$) that are interesting but way to technical for me.

BTW, no books/magazines in the "library" for me. Strictly newspapers and a calculator.
