Home Theater CD Audio Settings

First post. Glad to be here.

I am using a Yamaha HTR-5960 and Klipsch Quintet 5 setup w/10" sub. While I am happy with the surround, I am not sure that I am getting the best audio CD sound. It just seems weak. I am not showing that all speakers are running on the front panel of the Yamaha which is probably normal. It may very well be a configuration setting of some sort. Can I configure this system to use all speakers for CD audio? Anyone out there have this setup and if so, how are you setting up the system for CD stereo?

Also, being a novice, I was wondering how this setup stacks up to similar systems for the coin...

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Home Theater CD Audio Settings

Typically, music aficionados prefer to listen to their music in 2 channel (with good tower speakers).

My advice would be to just play around with the different sound formats and see what sounds best. ProLogicIIx should take the stereo sound and put it out to all 5 speakers, for example.

Your receiver is probably showing what is being input (usually 2 channel stereo with CD's), not what is being output.

I'm not familiar with that receiver, but Klipsch speakers are highly regarded and the Quintets are what I usually recommend for that price range.

Thanks for the response. I need some quality time with the manual to try some different things and to better understand what options I have.

Re: Home Theater CD Audio Settings

For my HTR-5790 setup, ordinary "2-channel stereo" is best for most CD music. Some of them seem to be more filling using "7-channel stereo" This setting puts the left audio on Left, left surround and left back, and similar for the Right.

None of the special sound settings are listenable! They all do horrible things to the presence, clarity, sound stage, and to the neighbor's cat.
