Wiring Home theater system

Thread Starter
Hi,
I have bought sony DG820 receiver to setup5.1 system.
Planning to buy 5 speakers from monoprice .com
8 Inches Kevlar 2-Way In-Wall Speakers (Pair) - 80W Nominal, 120W Max

Will use 2 for left/right, 2 for surround sound, 1 for center channel.

subwoofer:
Polk Audio PSW10 10-Inch Monitor Series Powered Subwoofer (Single, Black)

I need to know how to wire the system.
I have a TV with 3 HDMI inputs.
I plan to run HDMI cable from my cable box to receiver/ component cable from my DVD player to receiver/component cable from my WII to receiver.

Then run a single HDMI to my TV.

I plan to connect the speakers from the receiver output.

what cables do I use? Can anyone suggest me cables form monoprice.com to use to hook up my speakers from reciever?

thanks,
Chuck.

Re: Wiring Home theater system

You need speaker wire.

Re: Wiring Home theater system

I didn't download the manual for the DG820, but many recievers won't convert an analogue dignal to digital. If yours is one of these then you will also have to run component from your receiver to the TV.

Any 14G wire will work. (I usually go to the hardware store and get lamp cord.) But if you are into doing it right, here's one link:

For only $8.40 each when QTY 50+ purchased - 14AWG Enhanced Loud Oxygen-Free Copper Speaker Wire Cable - 50ft | 14AWG Loud Speaker Cable

Oops, this is not in-wall wire. But Monoprice's site isn't responding anymore. So just look for the same thing in an in-wall variety.)

If you are making a particularly long run, drop down to 12G.

Also, it's normally accepted that you refer to the speaker connections as "wire" and all the others ans "cables".
