first time home theater need help :)

hello, I am planning on buying a home theater system for my room. I have never tried projectors so I thought I might give it a try since one of my neighbors have one and it looks pretty awesome.

First thing first, WILL I be able to have a projector work on my room?

My room is 8ft height, 12' "2 Width and 16' 1" Length. I think I SHOULD be able to have a projector work on my room, so now let's see what I want to buy

Projector: BenQ W500 ($999.99)
Screen: AccuScreen 119" Diagonal HDTV 16:9 Manual ($132.99)
Mount: Atdec THWHPJCM Universal Projector Ceiling Mount with 15"-35" Extension ($172.99)
Audio: Yamaha 5-Disc Home Theatre In A Box (DVXC9707HD) ($399.99)

I think this is a good setup for a -$2000 budget and first-time purchase... The only concern I have is that I have a ceiling fan which is right in the middle of my room (also has light with it) and I don't know if I have to take it out so it doesn't interfere with the projector.

Thank you very much for your time and guidance

Yes, a projector will work as long as the top of screen is below the bottom of fan/light. I think you can do better than that projector for $1000. Did you want an LCD projector? I also would advise against a home theater in box.

A 119" screen is 58" high. With borders, the screen will probably be about 62" in total height. Your wall is 96" high. The bottom of the screen will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 24" off the ground (at least). That leaves you 10" of space between the top of the screen and the ceiling (or less). You're going to need to remove the ceiling fan.

Additionally, a 119" screen is 104" wide. With borders, it'll be closer to 108" total. Your wall width is 146", which means you'll only have about 19" on each side of the screen for your L/R speakers. Ideally you want your L/R speakers a foot or more away from the corner, so you'll be cutting this pretty close as well.

Do you have total light control in the room? It's a good idea with a projector.
Why a manual screen? Have you thought of shelf mounting?

I agree with Jim, avoid the HTIB. A HT is about video AND sound. You'd be better off, budgeting $1200 for audio, buying a used projector for $700 and having a DIT screen and shelf mount.

I want a projector that has good quality for $1000 or under, so far I been looking at different sites and the one that keeps poping up is the BenQ W500. If you have a suggestion for a better projector for same or lower price I would be really happy

I thank you for the tips Kevin as I am pretty new to this kind of thing I need ALL the information I can get.

I do not have a light control in my room.

My room has red walls, white ceiling and gray/white floor.

Please let me know if this will work

That is one side of my room, that wall (with the window) has 12' 2" Width and 8' Height, as you can see the fan ceiling is in the middle of the room.

My plan is block all light coming from the window with this thing that it has and totally works, then cover the window with the curtains and put a screen in this window. When I close everything in my window the room gets completely dark, the only light you see from picture is from the room itself So my question is... Should I get a smaller screen than 119" to put in this wall?

Another question is, since I get the suggestion of using a shelf mount instead of ceiling mount, will I still need to remove the ceiling fan? The project will be about 14' 1" away from screen, and the fan is about 6' 9" from the screen.

So now I should be getting:

Projector
screen (lower than 119?)
SHELF mount
and what kind of audio system? I don't want to spend so much on just audio.

And thank you again for the help.
