Hello all. I had an older video projector givin to me. its a Sony super data multiscan projector VPH1252Q. Its about 170lbs so its a bigger one. I guess they have great picture quality, but... due to poor luck, when it was givin to me I didn't get the remote for it, so all I have is the projector and nothing else. I plugged it in and a standby light came on on the projector and when I pushed the master power button nothing happned. So I dont know how to get the darn thing to turn on. I think I may just need the wired remote to get it to turn on, but I dont know. If anyone can please help! Im going to Iraq in April and I would really like to use it before I go. Thank you!

Re: Please help with Sony super data projector

Oh, bother. I used to work with one of these turkeys (in the affectionate sense) up 'till about two years ago...

There should be enough buttons on it somewhere to make it come on, but if not, then you will need a wired/IR remote of some variety. For us, it was one of the old reliables -- we had a number of various Sony CRT projectors that "just worked" for years and years, 9-12hrs/day, with only a periodic sweep of the dust off of the lenses.

The more I think on it, the more I think that a remote of some variety is pretty much required. We had two types -- one was a "simple" projector remote that also included all of the electronic set-up, convergence, et cetera. The other was a remote/switcher/scaler/everything else so that all the signals ran to it, and then one big combined data/signal snake went to the projector.

I don't know how much better than standard-def it'll go, but it'll do a really nice standard-def. (My recollection is that ours was purchased in ~1995 and decommissioned in 2007.)
