Rise of Panasonic or Samsung?

The Pioneer collapse is already old news.

Even before Pioneer decided to stop their R&D express, Panasonic Panels looked almost as good in side-by-side blu-ray comparisons.

Pioneer and Panasonic have a partnership building plasma panels, so common speculatulation has Panasonic rising as the leader.

But has anyone noticed how much Samsung technology has grown over the past 3 years. At the 2009 CES shows, Samsung panels were very sharp. While we couldnt do side-by-side comparisons, i could swear their blacks and whites were on par with Panasonic.

And their panels were very thin (some under an inch in thickness!)

Re: Rise of Panasonic or Samsung?

Based on my observations, Samsung still falls noticably short of Pioneer and Panasonic when displaying SD content. The displays I've seen were not calibrated, so IMO, YMMV, etc.
