Watchmen to have 3 seperate cuts?

Zack Snyder says WATCHMEN BLU-RAY/DVD will be 3 hours 25 minutes!

Don't know how accurate this is (it's already been posted on Ain't It Cool as well) but Watchmen will have 3 different releases, the last one being the longest with Tales of the Black Freighter and other additional footage totalling out at 3hrs 25mins running time.

If true then I suppose there's absolutely no reason for me to purchase the separate release of Tales of the Black Freighter/Under the Hood next month.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that that cut won't be out until the re-release in 2010 or 2011.

Hard to say. From what he says here it could be released anytime from within months to simultaneously.

Since he isn't including the whole "Black Freighter" content that's included in the individual release in March, I doubt it would alienate those customers as much (and it probably would have none of the Hollis Mason: Under the Hood stuff).

Actually, the ultimate director's cut is coming out in the fall of this year.

Here's the article about the DVD/Blu-Ray release from Snyder and his wife.

hmm thanks for that link.

some really interesting stuff there.

The dvd will be out around the time of Comic Con.

This makes a lot of sense to remind folk that the dvd / blu ray will be out

I guess you can call it extending their shell life

Re: Watchmen to have 3 seperate cuts?

Supposedly the film (in all it's incarnations) is complete, so I'm confused as to why so many separate releases are planned. One or two should be enough, and day-and-date, too.

You're confused? Really? Someone has to pay Fox... This film is going to be dipped until the cows come home.

I heard today that the Director's Cut (I presume the 3:10 version) will be released theatrically in July. Yeesh. . .

I guess with the summer release slate being so small due to the writer's strike they might as well. Rumors around the idea of a Directors Cut was the primary reason I was going to be renting "Black Freighter".

I don't really forsee that happening. If anything they might rerun it as a special engagement just in IMAX as they are doing right now for Dark Knight.

The July timeframe is the perfect time (approx 3-4mos) to release on DVD/Blu-Ray, they're not going to ruin those sales by running it in the movies again.

If it truly lives up to the hype they'll probably rerun it around Oscar time since it opened so early in the year.
