Another HDMI hardware conundrum

This seems this may be a popular subject, but here it goes. I have a 47" LG LCD (47LG60) and a SONY surround/DVD player (DAV-HDX576WF). I'm trying to add my PS3 and HD-DVR to the mix. The Surround amp only has one HDMI slot. So, is it posible to run each with HDMI into the TV, then run optical video out from the TV to the amp?

Out of all of the TV's on the market that I have read about, only 1 would do this and properly pass surround sound. If you need more HDMI inputs on your receiver, look at getting an HDMI switch from Monoprice.

Re: Another HDMI hardware conundrum

HDMI switch won't help him since that's an amp/DVD HTib combo so the HDMI is an output not an input. What he can do depends on how many digital inputs there are on that thing. Possibly need an optical switcher to get both the DVR & Blu-ray connected to that amp. HDMI would be straight to the TV for the video.

I think the optical switch should work, never even thought of that. I considered buying a whole new amp to resolve this, but I would have lost the wireless speakers. There are not a whole lot of hardware options on the out of box systems. Thanks for the help!

A few months ago I almost brought the same Sony HTB as an inexpensive and temporary HT solution as local dealers were offering it and other Sony systems as part of bundled deals.

However, I joined this Forum and found out all of the limitations that most HTB have. This caused me to revise my goals and objectives and of course my budget for a receiver and speakers and do it right the first time. I may have passed up a good deal on an inexpensive HTB but I now realize it would have been a system I would not have been happy with.
