Cable Box- AV Receiver Connection Problem

I currently have all my sources running into an Onkyo Reciever which is outputting to my tv and speakers. The problem that I'm running into is that I am getting video from my cable box but no audio. This setup was working fine but when I turned it on yesterday this problem occurred. I checked all the components individually to see where the problem was.

My playstation 3 has no issues. Audio and visual both come through clearly.

I used the HDMI cable that was connecting my cable box to the receiver and ran it directly into the tv to see if audio from the cable box was an issue but it was not. Audio came through fine while plugged directly into the tv (from the tv speakers). So the problem seems to be with the cable box and the receiver together. I checked mute and the basic settings and nothing was changed. Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Re: Cable Box- AV Receiver Connection Problem

Is the HDMI port you're using just a video port? Some receivers include both Audio/Video ports and just Video ports, make sure you check. Try plugging your cable box into another HDMI port that you're sure works. If this doesn't work, try using an optical cable from the cable box.

No the port is audio and visual. Its the same one that I've been using since I got the receiver. It was working perfectly until yesterday. I'm just not sure what changed.

So it sounds like the port on the receiver went bad, have you tried it with another device to no avail? Does the receiver have optical in ports on it? If so, use those to connect the cable box.

Re: Cable Box- AV Receiver Connection Problem

That's all you're going to say?
You should tell what fixed it, in case someone else has the same problem.
