Gunsmoke composer project

On suggestion from another member (from November last year) in my original post, I am posting here. Here is my project:

Quote:
I have made a list of the "Gunsmoke" episodes and have been hunting down the composers for each episode, to credit it and occassionally make a note of if I think the score is good or not.

I have reached Fred Steiner, and just found John Paker, so at the moment I have all of Steiner's credits, and hope to have Parker's (he didn't have a list, but he did 87 and I am at 56 currently).

In the mean time I hope anyone here can help add missing credits. Here is the page (just tell me here or PM me):

I've changed my the page to the list, so here is the new list:

http://www.tvshows.150m.com/Gunsmoke.html
(old page: Gunsmoke Composers: The Ultimate Guide to the Music of Gunsmoke)

I'm hoping anyone who has episodes where I don't have the composer listed, will help in my endeavor to credit every composer.

Thank you. :-)

Thanks for the welcome again. Looks like the second time didn't work either. Maybe there jsut isn't as many "Gunsmoke" fans as I hoped there would be.

Re: Gunsmoke composer project

The music in the first few seasons of Gunsmoke sounded as if it was lifted from B Western film serials of the 1940s. The music improved considerably in the later half hour seasons, to when in the hour ones, I think they had some of the best music that was being composed for series at the time.

S6 looks especially impressive, featuring original scores by Jerry Goldsmith, Bernard Herrmann, Fred Steiner, Leonard Rosenmann and Jerome Moross (of "Big Country" fame). I would love to see the same thing done for HGWT and "Rawhide".

Stock cues composed by Bernard Herrmann that appear in S3 and some S4 episodes of "Gunsmoke" are listed here (scroll to near bottom of page):

BHS - Herrmann Music in Have Gun Will Travel and Other Classic CBS Television Series

Interestingly enough, cues from Herrmann's "Three Bells to Perdido" (HGWT) show up here and there on "Gunsmoke".
