The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business.

The Specials

**Be Careful! Body of Lies (1-disc) is being released this week in both OAR & MAR versions! Get the right one!

Why—now that almost all televisions being sold are 16:9—are releases still being put out in butchered 4:3 releases? Why?

--I know I listed the SD version of Hounddog a week or two ago. It is on all my lists, however, again this week. The Blu-ray version is, apparently, due next week. Craziness.

--A discrepancy on the price of HSM 3: Senior Year on Blu-ray this week. Bestbuy.com is listing $25.99. The Sunday flyer is showing $27.99. The flyer price is listed above.

--A discrepancy on the price of Gandhi on Blu-ray this week. Bestbuy.com is listing $24.99. The Sunday flyer is showing $19.99. The flyer price is listed above.

--A discrepancy on the price of Body of Lies on Blu-ray this week. Bestbuy.com is listing $24.99. The Sunday flyer is showing $26.99. The flyer price is listed above.

--At Best Buy, purchase ALL THREE HIGH SCHOOL MOVIES ON BLU-RAY for $60. Must be purchased on same receipt.

--Also at Best Buy, buy ANY version of HSM 3: Senior Year AND any HSM movie, CD, or game and save $6, instantly. Must be purchased on same receipt.

--Also at Best Buy, purchase BOTH Changeling and Flash of Genius and save $5, instantly. Must be purchased on same receipt.

--Best Buy has quite a list of Blu-ray titles at $14.99 apiece:

Amadeus(last week’s release!), Babel, Black Hawk Down, The Departed, The Untouchables.

--Best Buy also has a notice in their flyer that they are having a 30% off sale on “select movies.” [i] See over 1700 DVD and Blu-ray titles online only at bestbuy.com/dvdsale. Markdowns taken from regular prices. Excludes outlet center items, special order, clearance, demo and open-box items. Rainchecks on insert items only.

--Best Buy Odds and Ends: Best Buy has lists of DVDs for sale @ $3.99, $6.99 & $9.99.

--Target, this week, will give you a FREE $10 TARGET GIFTCARD with the purchase of ANY HSM 3 DVD/Blu-ray AND ANY HSM 3 doll.

--Also, Target shows Lost: Season 4 @ $29.99 (Actually Seasons 1 thru 4, apiece).

--Target Odds and Ends: Target has lists of DVDs for $7.50 and $10.00.

Amadeus Blu-ray for $14.99? I'm down with that!

Thanks Mike and Patrick!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 2-17-2009

I'll probably rent Changeling but that's it. It's a nice respite for my wallet.

Thanks for the prices, guys!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 2-17-2009

Thanks as always Mike & Patrick for all of your efforts on the Weekly RoundUp!

I'll pick-up Changeling this week, and am considering a blind-buy on Body of Lies. I'll probably rent Flash of Genius.

The big release in my house (with 3 teen girls) this week is HSM3! I just looked at the different versions: SD-DVD, SD-DVD Ext Ed, and BD, trying to decide which one to pick-up. The BD version is a 3-disc set, and includes the SD-DVD Ext Ed disc as well (at least according to Amazon). Here's Amazon's description:
Disc 1:
  • Includes extended version of the movie and all of the bonus features from the 2-Disc DVD
  • Plus, Exclusive Blu-ray Bonus Features including:
Senior Awards, New Cast Profiles, BD Live (includes BD Live Photo Feature)
Disc 2:
  • DisneyFile Digital Download Copy Disc: Watch your DVD disc in the living room and your DisneyFile digital copy on the go
Disc 3:
  • DVD copy of the Extended Movie
Special Features:
*Extended Version of the Movie
*Cast Goodbyes
*Bloopers
*Deleted Scenese
*Night of Nights
*It's All in a Dress
*Sing-Along Mode
*Senior Awards
*New Cast Profiles It looks like I'm going with the BD version of HSM3 - plenty in this set to keep my 3 daughters occupied until Feb 27th (the release date for Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience).

Re: Weekly RoundUp 2-17-2009

Gandhi, Amadeus and Sideways are definitely intriguing. I'd do Body of Lies, but I refuse to pay for Digital Copy as a "bonus." It's bunk, pure and simple.

The price doesn't appear to cost any more than the usual new release. In fact, it's cheaper than Changeling and Quarantine.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 2-17-2009

I'll probably pick up Body Of Lies and Quarantine this week on Blu-ray. That's pretty much it.

FWIW...amazon is now matching Best Buy's prices on the BDs of Amadeus ($14.99) and Gandhi ($19.99) for this week.

Yeah Amazon price is finally good

Re: Weekly RoundUp 2-17-2009

FWIW, I was in my local BJs for a quick visit last night and noted they had a HUGE sale running on their copies of The Dark Knight. The 1-disc version was marked @ $8.99 and the SE (2-disc) was marked at $10.99. Both copies were $10 off the shelf price.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 2-17-2009

I don't know if this is true nationwide, but my local BB store sometimes has other non-ad specials on BluRays. Like today, I saw probably a half-dozen $14.99 titles that weren't in the ad, and picked one up (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest). Of course, since I wasn't interested I can't remember the other ~5 titles, but I do know they weren't any of the ones listed above.

Happy shopping!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 2-17-2009

Like others w/ grade school aged kids (plus a 2-yo toddler who also loves it in my case ), I went ahead and picked up HSM3 on BD earlier today from J&R nearby for the release day premium price of ~$26. Figured this one's worth it, especially since the kids are home all this week on their mid-winter break.

Also plan on picking up the Amadeus BD for the nice $15 price (probably along w/ something else from Amazon). I'll probably save Gandhi and maybe a couple others for another time...

Re: Weekly RoundUp 2-17-2009

Thanks for the prices, as always.

Couldn't resist the Amadeus Blu-ray for $15. And after selling my season 1 and 2 sets on Amazon for a nice price, I'm upgrading to the Dead Like Me complete set.

Also still pondering Gandhi for $20. But that seems to be the normal pricing for Sony catalog titles so I'll probably wait on that.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 2-17-2009

Just saw the DNR+EE mess being discussed elsewhere for the Amadeus BD. Gonna have to rethink this purchase, especially since it also doesn't come w/ the theatrical cut.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 2-17-2009

Turns out amazon has dropped the prices on a number of Oscar-nominated Blu-ray discs this week.

Most are in the 413.99 to $16.99 range. There are some pretty good deals in here.

I don't know. $413 seems kinda high for a disc.

I dunno. Not for a fine film like The Aviator!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 2-17-2009

Get your HSM3 coupons here:
High School Musical 3 - Save $10 On Blu-ray Or $5 On DVD

$10 off Blu-ray coupon
$5 off DVD coupon
Both expire 3/31/2009

Note: When you click on the coupon "buttons" in the above link, you will be redirected from Disney's site to Coupons.com to print the coupons. If you have not printed coupons from them before you will be prompted to install a small coupon printer app. These coupons will print directly to your printer (no display on screen and no print to file/PDF). Note also that you will only be able to print each coupon twice.

Also, there is a possibility that a major B&M retailer will have HSM3 on BD priced at $22.99 next week. It might be worth waiting to pick it up for $12.99 + tax after the $10 coupon!

Unfortunately for me I pre-ordered HSM3 on BD from Amazon for $26 before I was aware of the coupon and potential price drop next week. After I received the coupon I picked-up a second copy from Best Buy for $20 ($28 + tax - $10 coupon), thinking that I could return the Amazon one, and save $6 in the process. Then I discovered that I would have to pay $3 shipping to return it to Amazon, plus the hassle (minor) of packing and shipping it. I contemplated just returning the second one to Best Buy and being done with it. I tired one last option . . . I told my teen daughters to check with their friends to see if any were interested in buying the HSM3 BD set for $25. Sure enough, I had a buyer today. So I end up with "my" BD set for $21 ($26 + $20 - $25), and one of my daughter's friends got a BD set for $25.

Wait until they try to play it in their SD-DVD player...

THEN you've got some problems on your hands...

Re: Weekly RoundUp 2-17-2009

Hmmm... Is it actually a good idea to *install* that "coupon printer" just to get $10 off on the BD? Not too crazy about having to install stuff like that.
