5.1 spekaers with 7.1 reciver

Hello everyone,

First I want to say that I'm amazed of how good this forum is... (I should've find it before; and get some advise before getting my stuff).

I have to say that I'm a total newbie on Home Theaters and i just have a couple days *trying* to understand some of this stuff.

I wanted to buy a decent 'entry-level' HT; and i didn't want to expend more than ~$350 / ~$380 on it. And I just brougth a Sony STR-DG720 ($219), and for the speakers i got Yamaha NS-SP1800 ($119). My desicion to get that model is that i couldn't find anything cheaper without the HDMI pass-thru.

My question is (I haven't received the HT yet): Where it would be better to install the 2nd pair of my sattellite speakers? on the front (B) or can I install them on the back as 'surround' ??

thanks for your help in advance.

I would hook them up to the "Surround" and place them in the rear of your room. Then go into the receivers setup menu and set the "Surround Back" speakers to Off.

Thanks for your reply gene,

I forgot to add another question. I know that the reciver (or the speakers) come with some cable, but i was thinking on getting something else; any recommendations?

Don't use the wire that came with the speakers. It will be too thin. Any 16 or 14 gauge wire would work well. Doesn't have to be name brand or expensive. Here's where I get most of my wire/cables Monoprice.com 50 ft, 16 g wire. You can also look at the hardware store or Walmart in the automotive/car stereo area.
