Re: MY DREAM CAME TRUE- "Peyton Place" on DVD this May from Shout! Entertainment!!

I am now reading "INSIDE PEYTON PLACE" all about Grace Metalious !! Fascinating read!!! Also, when the series was initially on read "THE GIRL FROM PEYTON PLACE", when I was in JR. High. Very similar stories about her childhood and many things similar between Grace and Allison......
Was the PEYTON mansion in the "RTPP" film ?? Was that Roberta Carters (Mary Astor) home ??

Yes Sir inside and out was the Peyton Mansion on RTPP. Look at Sound and the Fury the town square is there and The Manison is right off the square. Nice job because you even see the climb of the square toward the manison

Re: MY DREAM CAME TRUE- "Peyton Place" on DVD this May from Shout! Entertainment!!

Fox Movie Channel broadcast this weekend "As Young As You Feel" and what did I see the front of Doctors Hospital and parking area. Plus the hallway of the court house. I wonder what other great Fox movies used the square etc before Peyton Place was aired.

Irwin Allen fans all know that Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea used Stevens office and a bit of the square for out door shots in Voyages 1st year 1964. Lost in Space in 1965 their first season used the Carson home inside and out with a Christmas Tree and decorations inside. The third and final season of Space used the cannon from the square and some sites I think. I know nothing of Giants. I do not have dvds of these two shows. The only two shows I have bought are Voyage and The Time Tunnel. I loved getting Tunnel on DVD because the last episode of the series showed all kinds of the sets from Peyton Place. I thought this will be the only way I can see my favorite shows sets in DVD and wished the Peyton House had been there.

Batman in the last season used the nice long set in front of Adas in the second of the 3 part episode in London. I wonder if there are other Fox tv shows from the 60s or movies for that matter that have props of sets from the show. I just recalled the Batman Movie used the outside of the Colonial Inn. I also like in season 5 of Peyton Place how they moved Doctors Hospital right into the square. I thought that was cool. If anybody knows of movies or TV shows that used the sets please tell.

I tried to get on the Fox Lot a few times but it is a closed studio to tourists. I think thats a shame becouse of lot great movies were made there. "Laura" one of my all time favorite movies had her apartment doors and inside doors used in the Peyton Mansion. "The Seven Year Itch" my other all time favorite movies had the large black heater from the movie and picture or two placed in Adriennes room. I call it a heater but who knows. Alan you mentioned Roberta Carter from RTPP her room looks very much like Martin Peytons. Hope your Play is a knock our Jack!!! The Ed Nelson Book sounds interesting Charles. I read somewhere that Ed used shall we say some salty language during the run of the show. HA! I wonder if it was true?

A month and half to go people time is going fast. I wish PP was released every month but I am not complaining.

I'm surprised you guys didn't notice the use of the 'Doctors Hospital' exterior (actually the executive offices of 20th Century-Fox) in a rather notorious film of the 1960s!

A few hints:

It was filmed while PP was on the air,
Based on a blockbuster novel,
Features two of the PP actresses in the cast- in fact, one of them is in the scene where the set in question was used,
Is available on DVD, and is considered a camp classic!

Any guesses, ladies and gentlemen?

Re: MY DREAM CAME TRUE- "Peyton Place" on DVD this May from Shout! Entertainment!!

I would think it would be Barbara Parkins and Lee Grant. They are the only two PP stars that appeared in a film together that I can think of that is a CAMP classic and that would be "VALLEY OF THE DOLLS" !!!!
Which by the way was the first novel to out sell "PP" after it's release to book stores........
Just read that out of "INSIDE PEYTON PLACE" by Emily Toth !!!

Congratulations!!!! Alan, you know your movies. Okay, the scene in question has Lee Grant and Sharon Tate in it, and they're admitting Sharon's ill husband (and Lee's brother) into a hospital, and that's where you see the Fox building (aka 'Doctors Hospital') used as the hospital entrance.

I thought while watching something they showed the 20th Century Fox emblem atop a white building. I really missed the Valley of the Dolls
connection as well. Thanks Charles and as you said welcome Peyton Place fan!! I ordered too from DD but I could swear I paid more. I called them today because I am waiting for a Dvd and asked when chapter two would be on their web page. DD said they did not know. Jack good luck tonight!!!

Thanks Mark for thinking of us Friday- All went well and I get to watch TV again in the evening- Yeah!! Still no word on any extras on the Part One Disc? I'm starting to think we might not get any on this release, which will certainly be a shame. I for one would love to see some interviews or something!

I did indeed held a good thought for you Jack and glad to hear your efforts paid off. I too wonder where the extras are. I was hoping for Peyton Place Revisted. I thought they could also do a tag on the last DVD or all of them in the manner that DS did. We are a almost a month away perhaps news of extras will come out soon.

Okay Charles, here's my question to you... How many copies have you bought? I've been telling all my relatives, who look at me like I'm crazy, that they are going to have a Peyton Place Christmas. Even my twenty something year old nephews. LOL!

One, but as you see, I'm spreading the word! I've also left word on PP's release with other message boards for soap/classic TV fans, and suggest that you all do the same! Remember, the more people know about it, the more sets will be sold, and even more future volumes will come out! BTW, any news on extras yet?

Re: MY DREAM CAME TRUE- "Peyton Place" on DVD this May from Shout! Entertainment!!

Just Finished reading "INSIDE PEYTON PLACE" by Emily Toth, get this book. Excellent insight on the backstory of the book and series. Great comparisons on the film and television series. Jerry Wald had planned on working on creating the series until, he died prematurely. Book discusses Grace Metalious inspiration for the book. Her general disdain for the film. Discusses the hour pilot with the CROSS family and how they were axed from the series. Great read !!!

Re: MY DREAM CAME TRUE- "Peyton Place" on DVD this May from Shout! Entertainment!!

Hi Fans thought I would have some fun.

The Unsung Hero's of Peyton Place

1. Miss Esther Choate
I love the scene between Betty and Miss Choate in Miss Choates office. Miss Choate gives a wonderfull dialog about the dogs she has owned. Excellent!!!

2 Ada Jacks
I love the back and forth dialog between she and Eddie.
I liked the scene where she asks Eddie to stay. Beautiful!!!

3 Matt Swain
The guide on each episode. He had great moments. I liked his talk with Leslie after certain information has come out. Great!!!

4 Judge Irwin A Chester
I love how he ran that court! The best when Martin Peyton and Steven had a heated exchange. Powerfull !!!

5 John Fowler
He has so many great moments. The mock court he and Steven had in Stevens office. The dialog superb!!!

The Unsung Anti heros

1 Leslie Harrington
He had tons of great moments. The conversation between he and Betty about a certrain document he wanted her to give him. I could watch that scene a hundred times!!!

2. Lee Webber
The very last scene with Martin Peyton in the Peyton Mansion. Unbelievable!!!

3 Eddie Jacks
I just have to say singing at the piano while Adas blood preasure went up. Pretty darn good!!

4 Paul Hanley
He should have hung around longer. His exchange with Mike Rossi at the Inn great stuff!!

5 Susan Winter
She made the last season interesting. I like where she Steven and Betty stand in the Peyton House as Susan gives a synopise of the plot lines from Peyton Place over the past five years.

I can think of many more on both lists. I am sure Alan or Charles and
Jack I am sure you could name a few.

I hope all who read this will see this show has a lot of merit. So buy buy buy on my May 19th.

Re: MY DREAM CAME TRUE- "Peyton Place" on DVD this May from Shout! Entertainment!!

Hi. I am from Boston. It was amazing to see the Red Sox win the World Series in 2004, and 2007. I am so frustrated because I am still waiting for my Dream Tv Series to show up anywhere. I collect on Vince Edwards and have been searching forever for his other tv series MATT LINCOLN, and the pilot film titled DIAL HOT LINE. There were sixteen episodes of Matt Lincoln produced by Universal in 1970. ABC never gave this series a chance. It aired at 7:30 opposite Flip Wilson and Jim Nabors. Can you imagine a drama series about a psychiatrist who ran a walk-in clinic and a telephone hotline airing at 7:30? Of course it missed its target audience completely. ABC never switched it to an appropriate timeslot. It was just cancelled. I cannot find the individual episodes of this series or tv movie Dial Hot Line through private collectors. At least some of the wants posted can be found through private sources. Not the case with Matt Lincoln and Dial Hot Line. I have e-mailed Shout!Factory. No luck. HELP! I am very happy that your dream came true. I hope someday my dream tv series MATT LINCOLN and tv movie DIAL HOT LINE will surface. I would be happy to find it through private sources, on 16mm, dvd, vhs, etc. Just to finally have it would be a dream after searching for years.

Re: MY DREAM CAME TRUE- "Peyton Place" on DVD this May from Shout! Entertainment!!

It's interesting that over the past few years I have noticed an interest in Matt Lincoln, and it's a show I have never seen, although I have watched Ben Casey (but then, who hasn't?), another MIA show on the DVD front. I would like to see an episode or two to see what the fuss is about. If it does come out on disc, I'd considser it a blind buy. Good luck to you, Vincefan- I was told many a time to give up on PP coming to DVD. So hang on in there! BTW, may I suggest you also push for a Ben Casey release- after all, if that show comes out, more interest will be raised in Matt Lincoln.

Re: MY DREAM CAME TRUE- "Peyton Place" on DVD this May from Shout! Entertainment!!

I got my copy of Peyton Place: Part One today!!!
The discs come in an Amaray case that holds 5 discs (similar to the ones Paramount uses) and a slipcover. You slide the case out of the slipcover and its the same picture underneath. Inside the case is a picture of a park.
It come with a single flyer printed on both sides (see pics). On one side of the flyer, is a brief description of the major players and a cast list. On the other side is an announcement for part 2 with some brief teasers (I didn't want to read them in case they contain spoilers).
There is no episode guide.Would be nice if the actual discs said Episodes 1-6, so you would know what episodes are contained on the disc. It come with a single flyer printed on both sides (see pics)
That's all for now! I'm going to go watch the first few episodes...
I took some pictures because I'm sure there are some of you who want to see a sneak peek.

Great!! Did you get it thru Amazon? What about extras? How's the picture quality- any remastering of the original episodes?

The episodes seem to be complete. I timed a few, and the running times are in the 25 minute range which is normal for a show from the '60s. This includes the 30 second preview for the next episode.

Episode 25 - 25:27
Episode 28 - 25:23
Episode 31 - 25:24

The running times seem correct to me; how's the picture/sound quality? (crosses fingers)

I purchased it at a store on the west coast that sells used dvds and cds. It was unused and still sealed in shrinkwrap. I think it may be an advance copy for movie/TV reviewers because there is a small hole punch over the UPC bar code.
There are no extras. Just a "bare bones" set.
I didn't watch the show when it aired on the Romance channel, so I don't know if they remastered it or not, but the picture quality is nice and sharp--not grainy. It does seem like there is some kind of edge enhancement. There are occasional specs of dirt and dust but its not distracting. I'm guessing they are from 35mm prints. They look better than the prints that Shout used on their Room 222 set.

WOW!! If that image represents what we're in for, we've hit the jackpot!! The prints used on the cable reruns were never that sharp or clean!!! Pity there's no extras. I think we need to contact the folks at Shout! Factory and tell them to dig into the Fox vaults for the 1973 retrospective and the discarded 1963 pilot.

And here's the menus...

They are not static menus. They are motion menus. A character's face is highlighted and then we hear audio from one of the episodes of them speaking .

As you can see, the menu gives you the option to play the preview clip independently by itself. If you select episode, the preview will still play at the end.

LOVE IT !!!
