"All The King's Men" (1949) - Why No Better From Columbia?

I purchased a copy of "All The King's Men" - the original 1949 movie that won Best Picture and was surprised by the lack of DVD quality Columbia (Sony) gave this film. Is this the best source they had to work with? Anything in the works for a better "restored" version on SD?

Probably not, since that Spicoli remake drowned in an ocean of flop sweat.

Per the Richard Gallagher review of Columbia Pictures Best Pictures Collection

All the King’s Men

This is a gorgeous full-screen transfer, accurately framed at 1.33:1. The transfer is so clean that this black and white film looks like it could have been made this year.

Per the comments in the review thread the film in the box set is a new transfer.

I am sure eventually it will make its way to a new individual disk for those who don't want the box set.
