Charles Bronson: Telefon (19th May) on DVD! - Page 2

Re: Charles Bronson: Telefon (19th May) on DVD!

Simon,

Thanks for the info and thanks for mentioning the anamorphic part.

Is this a double-feature release including the other Bronson 70's film "St Ives"? I have that one and was trying to decide on getting this double-feature for Telefon.

If you've had a chance to view St Ives, how's the transfer on that one?

Hello Jeff,

Yes, my DVD is the double feature R1 release.

I havnt watched St Ives yet, but I've just had a quick look at it and the picture quality does seem to be better than Telefon, with good colours, looking fairly sharp (1.85:1 anamorhpic).

Best Buy didn't have this. Is there a delay? I hate Best Buy. They can't decide whether they want to sell blow dryers, tv's or computers. If I had a choice I wouldn't go to these people for DVDs (or music for that matter). That's why Circuit Sh--ty went under

Simon,

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing that the St Ives transfer for the new release is the same transfer as the single (St Ives) release. I will probably get the new set since Telefon is one that I've been waiting for a DVD release for a long time.

Re: Charles Bronson: Telefon (19th May) on DVD!

Got this in a few days ago and watched it last night.
I agree that it generally looks soft with usually drab colors- but a lot of that is clearly from the way it was shot. There was definitely diffusion used- but it was used in a very schizophrenic way. Some shots are downright blurry and then they'll cut to one that's nice and crisp and then back to the soft shot again. There is also some fleeting print damage. I thought it was functional...nothing more, nothing less. St. Ives does appear more dynamic and consistent.
For a little over $8, I'm fully satisfied with the purchase. I enjoy Ives and never got around to buying it, and I've wanted to see Telefon ever since I was a kid and saw the ads in the newspaper. I enjoyed it ( quite a bit different from what I was expecting).

Re: Charles Bronson: Telefon (19th May) on DVD!

Only just seen this thread. That's great news that Telefon has finally been released on DVD. I was wondering whether they had digitally remastered the picture. Shame, but on the other hand you don't see a load of old films digitally remastered for DVD.

The Stone Killer is another Charles Bronson film I want to see on DVD. I wasn't sure who had the rights to that. It's been a while since I last saw it (only seen it once, on Five in the UK).

Has Rider On The Rain been released on Region 1? Just thought I'd let other people who are interested know, that it is being released on Region 2 by Optimum Releasing very soon. It was meant to be released on Monday 25th May, but it may be delayed because they are trying to get the English dubbed version. The previous Region 2 release didn't have a very good picture and it was a French dubbed version.

That´s not correct!
"From Noon Till Three"(from 1976) and "The White Buffalo"(from 1977) are also MGM movies.
Warner should have the rights on those Bronson titles, too.
Those two titles were only officially released in Japan.
I own both japanese DVD´s and the picture quality is outstanding!

"From Noon Till Three" was released on DVD by MGM in the US on 5-12-2009 but for some reason it wasn't announced and it appears that for whatever reason only a few copies made it to the marketplace. It definitely exists as I have a copy and is the rarest title I have in my collection.

I'm hoping Telefon gets released on it's own in the future. I bought the R1 double-sided disc release of Telefon and St. Ives. The latter (and it's extras) played fine, but the former didn't play as well.

MGM released FROM NOON TILL THREE on 5-12-2009 but it didn't seem to actually make it to the marketplace except for a few copies.
