Problem with Denon AVR789 Receiver

I have a new Denon AVR789 Receiver. There currently are 2 hdmi inputs -satellite tv and a dvd deck. When I set the receiver to tuner in order to listen to the radio, the sound cuts in and out -it will sound for 2 seconds and then silent for 2 seconds and will alternate like this indefinitely. If I turn the tv set on then this "fixes" the problem. I can then turn the tv set off, and the audio will remain correct. The Denon tech support has no ideas. Anyone out there have any? thanx.

Sounds like an HDMI thing. Can I assume you aren't trying to watch TV at the same time? I would check through the input settings. Maybe it's expecting something on HDMI (which it shouldn't have with an internally generated source) due to the input setup.

Interesting that you should say that, as I had a similar response at another forum, and indeed it does appear to be an HDMI thing. I'm not sure that I'll ever get to the bottom of this, but I unplugged and replugged the dvd hdmi cable and it now (so far) appears to work fine. Is HDMI known for interference of some kind?

thanx for responding. --ds
