The John Ford box set didn't include this,at the time I was upset, but looking
at the laser and what they shown on TCM ,I am glad that version wasn't
Released, its Badly in need of a new transfer.

Re: The Fugitive: needs restoring!!!

I do not own this movie in HD yet but was wondering about the quality of the transfer that is available now? One of the big reasons I have not picked up this title yet on HD-DVD is Dolby Digital Plus, and standard DD on Bluray. I know DD+ is a nice improvement over DD but to be honest I want this title in lossless audio. But I was just wondering is the Bluray transfer really good or should it be remastered? If so another good reason for me to wait on this title. I honestly believe that Blurays should offer lossless audio to offer the best sound possible to match the 1080p picture, this is why I now buy the majority of my titles on Bluray and not DVD.

That's not the film this thread is about.

The Fugitive (1947)

Hey Reuben I didn't realize that this thread was about the 1947 version. The original post didn't mention anything about it, my bad. I responded without reading the other post I just jumped the gun, sorry.

Re: The Fugitive: needs restoring!!!

In regards to the 1993 film, the current BD (and the OOP HD-DVD) was from a Master that was incorrectly filtered prior to encoding resulting in severe jaggies. The effective disc resolution is therefore 960x1080.

Warner has stated that a new master must be struck to fix the problem.

Other titles with this issue:

Enter the Dragon
Lethal Weapon 2

Full Metal Jacket's original release had this issue as well, but that one was remastered and had a new release when the Kubrick SEs came out.

Re: The Fugitive: needs restoring!!!

If they screwed up the picture on the new one I hope they fix it,I like
it,But the Ford Film is a visual masterpiece which deserves their time
a lot more than fixing the new one.But I don't know how high its is on there
list
