See All Five Best Picture Nominees in One Day

AMC theatres are offering an all-day pass to see all five Best Picture nominees in a single day (on Oscar Eve). Cost is $30, $25 if you have a Movie Watcher card.

Here's the schedule for my local AMC:
1030: 'Milk'
1305: 'The Reader'
1545: 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'
1915: 'Slumdog Millionaire'
2145: 'Frost/Nixon'

I'm seriously pondering tackling this. I'd be at the theater for, oh, 14 hours or so.

Anyone else up for it?

Oh yeah, unlimited refills on the .

I'm thinking about it for a few reasons.

1. I've yet to pull the trigger on BUTTON. I've put it off everyday this week including tonight.

2. I planned on seeing SLUMDOG and THE READER again.

I might skip a second viewing of MILK but FROST/NIXON is one I could watch again.

I saw Benjamin Button and Gran Turino back to back and my ass is still numb. I can't imagine watching 5 movies back to back in a theater.

Re: See All Five Best Picture Nominees in One Day

I use to have my mother drop me off around 1pm when she went to work and she'd pick me up around midnight when she got off. Of course, this was around 14 years ago and I can't remember the last time I had a double feature at the theater.

After my original post I told my girlfriend about this and she thought I was crazy so I'm probably going to be out. Last year's screening in Newport, KY sold out so apparently many enjoy it.

Re: See All Five Best Picture Nominees in One Day

The last double feature I took in was Revolutionary Road and Slumdog Millionaire the Saturday before last. I don't get the opportunity to do it too often, but when I can, I jump at the chance. I have no desire to see Button and I didn't like Slumdog enough to see it again this soon, but I do want to see the other three. The nearest AMC is a ways off, however, so I'm going to miss out. Hopefully I can still catch Milk at the theater, but the other two are gone from my area.

Well, I experienced Trilogy Tuesday. One of the best movie going experiences of my life.

I've watched 4/5 Best Pic nominees and would be willing to watch all 5 in a row.

Re: See All Five Best Picture Nominees in One Day

Just found out that an Emagine theater near me is doing (nearly) the same thing. This would work out better for me because the promotion lasts for an entire week - 2/6 through 2/12 (you still have to see all five in one day, but you get a choice of days). I'd much rather do this on, say, a Thursday than a Saturday.

Also, Emagine gives unlimited pop and popcorn, a major plus. The lone drawback: they have 'Benjamin Button' slated last, at 9:45 pm. I think I'd have to switch over to coffee in order to stay awake for a nearly three-hour film at that point.

Emagine's schedule (with running lengths):

1100 - Slumdog Millionaire(1:56)
1330 - The Reader(2:03)
1615 - Frost/Nixon (2:02)
1900 - Milk (2:07)
2145 - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2:47)

I like AMC's lineup a lot better, but the Pop/Thursday considerations will send me to Emagine.

AMC also give you unlimited drinks and popcorn as well as in & out priviledges. I've been doing it for the past three years and will do it again this year. I wanted to see Milk and Slumdog one more time on the big screen, so this'll be the perfect opportunity.

They give a fifteen minute break between movies and do trivia and hand out prizes and whatnot. It's actually alot of fun.

I plan on watching some of Button, going to have dinner and then I figure I'll be back in time to catch the last half hour.

My wife and I and some friends went last year and are doing it again this year at AMC. We had a blast so we are going again this year. I'll have to bone up on some trivia before we go. Fortunately, we have all seen Forrest Gump 2 so we'll go to dinner, etc during that time.

I am 3 hours away from an AMC.

Re: See All Five Best Picture Nominees in One Day

I've never done this because I've always seen too many of the noms. This year I've seen two: Milk and Frost. No desire to see either again, but since those are the bookends, I could come for The Reader and split after Slumdog. Tempting...!

Re: See All Five Best Picture Nominees in One Day

Well, I did it.

I left the house at 1000 and didn't get back home until 0030.

I'd rate the films in this order:

1. Slumdog
2. Milk
3. The Reader
4. Frost/Nixon
5. Benjamin Button

To be honest, while they are all very good films, none totally blew me away (although Sean Penn's performance did). At least two do not belong among the nominees, and Gran Torino - which I saw last week - was at least as good as all of them.

As for the experience itself, I had a blast. It was much easier than I feared, and not once did I think 'let's get this thing over with'. Just one bucket of popcorn was enough for the day, but I did go to town on the drinks.

I'll do it again next year, for sure.
