No sound from back channels with 7.1 Blu-ray discs.

Thread Starter
I just recently bought a Sony Blu-ray (BDP-S550) player with 7.1 analog outputs and hooked it up to my 7.1 multi channel input on my Onkyo receiver. I did the speaker set up on the Blu-ray player and all 7 main channels were working. When I play 7.1 discs, like Hellboy II and Dark City, there is no signal going to the two back channels. Do 7.1 Blu-ray movies not work with multi channel analog connections? Do they have to be run through HDMI only to get all 7 channels?

Just because there are seven channels does not mean that the movie has sound on all seven of those channels.....Try using a setup disc that defiinitely for certain has sound on those back channels, and see if it works.

Alot of receivers you have to go into the setup and set it for DPLII with rears added. Which receiver do you have?

Re: No sound from back channels with 7.1 Blu-ray discs.

Hi,
I bought an ONKYO TX-SR805 in January 2008.
I have never managed to have the 7.1 working on my ONKYO TX-SR805.

Even with a 7.1 Blu Ray DVD, the leds in the front panel showing the surround rear speakers have never been ON.

I have a SONY BDP-S1 upgraded with the latest firmware (bought in the US)
and I have a European Panasonic DMP-BD10A (with the latest firmware)

I am suspecting the HDMI Cables and/or the ONKYO firmware update.

1/Are U aware if there is any existing firmware for the ONKYO TX-SR805? If Yes, what does it fix?
2/Could the HDMI be the Problem (is there an HDMI 1.2 or 1.3 cables?)
3/ have you ever heard about this problem?

Thanks for your help.

Could you please help?

Re: No sound from back channels with 7.1 Blu-ray discs.

On the 805 pages 76 and 77 of your manual show many different surround modes that you can use to get 7.1
