Considering Blu-Ray for my X1 - anyone else running similar setup?

I'm considering a Blu-Ray player to feed my old X1 projector (no plans to replace it). Anyone else running a similar setup? Since the 16:9 area of the X1 is native 480P it seems to me that Blu-Ray at downscaled 480p would effectively double the resolution compared native 480i upscaled DVD. Couple that with better compression and color saturation and I'm thinking the picture quality should be dramatically better than DVD. I know that OTA HD signals look fantastic on this box.

I'm thinking of the Samsung blu-ray box that streams Netflix. Any experience with that service?

Wow. 10 years at HTF......

If you're happy with HD OTA on it, then Blu-ray will look as good or better. I have the X1(packed away) and HD OTA and satellite looked good on it. But my current 720p projector looks much better. And when I eventually upgrade to a 1080p projector, it will look even better.

I think the reality is that when you start watching BD, you're going to want to upgrade the projector. Happened to me when I got HD DVD a couple years ago. You can get a very good quality Mits DLP 720p projector for under $800 now if money is a factor (and these days it usually is. )

What were you running before your 720P projector? Was HD-DVD your first HD source or had you already been watching HD sources for years as I have?

Philip

I am still running my X1 and have a Sony S550 BD player and the picture is excellent. I run it in at 720P which gives me the best image, I tried 480 p but it wasn't as sharp.

I alos have a HD-DVD player hooked up and it also looks best at 720p. I love watching them both but when I compare it to my 1080p plasma it obviously doesn't look so good but I can't gripe considering how well the X1 continues to do with HD material.
