Panasonic DMP-BD35 vibration

I have had a Panasonic DMP-BD35 for about 3 or 4 weeks now and have watched several movies on it (both BD and DVD). A couple of weeks ago I tried to watch a DVD of Bankok Dangerous but the player started vibrating and really rattling something on the shelf it sits on (it sits on top of my Toshiba HD-D3 HD-DVD player too). I pulled the DVD out and placed it in the HD-DVD player and after a very slight vibration as it started spinning, it played just fine. I figured I must have gotten a disc that was off center.

Friday night I watched another DVD on it and it played fine until I started playing around with the extra features and the vibration returned. I didn't try it in any other players however. Last night I tried yet another DVD and it started to vibrate as bad as the Bankok Dangerous DVD. I placed that one in the HD-DVD player and had no problems at all with it.

I have tried most of the 12 or so Blu-ray discs that I own and not a single one of them has caused any vibrations in this player (yet).

Is this a problem with the player or am I encountering a higher than normal number of warped or off center DVDs?

I haven't had any problems with my BD35. Also, I've done quite a bit of reading on this unit and have not read that this is a problem. Is there any chance that your player isn't sitting flat? If you're sure that your unit is situated in a stable fashion and the problem happens with multiple discs, it sounds like you probably have a defective unit.

I have it sitting on top of my Toshiba HD-D3 which is on a glass shelf below my Hitachi 46F500 TV. This is what it looks like. I assume it's pretty much flat under there.

I really hope it's not defective since but I'm starting to think that it might be. It came from Costco a few weeks ago so returning it won't be a problem. Of course I probably won't be able to find another one (or its new replacement) for the same $229 Costco was selling the DMP-BD35 for in January.

Sounds like the internal drive has become unevenly weighted somehow. Possibly as the eye of the disk drive moves further (or closer, but I would suspect further) away from the center of the drive the weight difference begins to cause the vibration. I would take it back to Costco and see if they can order you another player or worse case call Panasonic for warranty support.

I have now watched two more DVDs and parts of a few more BDs and there hasn't been any hint of the vibration again... so far. I may hold on to this player for a few more weeks and see if the problem arises again. I got it from from Costco so I believe I have 90 days to return it.

I have had the same vibration problem but with Red Box rentals discs. I rented a DVD from Movie Cube last night and it worked fine and all my store bought DVD's work just fine. I have not tried a Block Buster DVD yet. I called Panasonic three times and they said that vibrations have not been a problem and they say it's the DVD disc. They sent me the the latest firmware (1.7) and it made no difference. Must be something about Red Box DVD's.
