Robert Rodriguez seems to be very interested in rebooting the 'Predator' franchise...

Re: "Predator" reboot...

Enough with all the reboots, dammit! It was fine for 007 and Batman, because their respective movie franchises needed it. But now this is just getting ridiculous.

Re: "Predator" reboot...

I wish they would stop attempting all of these "reboots" and do something new. I've always thought that Harry Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat" series of books could be a promising movie series. Why don't they try something like that, instead of all these retreads?

I'm still waiting to see proper adaptations of Brian Jacque's Redwall made.

Re: "Predator" reboot...

Yeah, it's sad that even movies like "Predator" would've never gotten made these days just simply because it's not a remake, reboot, comic book/tv/video game/theme park ride adaptation.

Yeah, the Predator franchise is doing great after the Alien Vs. Predator movies.

Re: "Predator" reboot...

Oh, hell, watch it be a GCI Predator too, cause it will be better that way!

The thing is that Predator isn't a series with a tight continuity or a concept that's gone far astray, so you don't need to reboot it as a series. Just make a cool Predator movie.

What's to say that's not what's going to happen? There's no script (if you believe what Bloody Disgusting says) so no one knows how much of a 'reboot' it will be. The term reboot seems to be used because Hollywood thinks it sounds better than calling it sequel-that-has-no-connection-to-the-other-movies-in-the-series.

I have to disagree and say neither of those needed rebooting. That being said I did enjoy the films. As for Predator, that's one original that cannot be touched, they won't be able to improve upon one of the best sci-fi horror films to date. But, I'll watch it if it does get made.

When did the term "reboot" come into fashion, anyway?

Maybe when they found out the word remake didnt sound as cool. reboot, makes it sound like they will make it better than it was. To fix something that was broken in the first place. But alas, that is rarely the case.

I really could understand a remake/reboot if they DID bring something new to it. Planet of the Apes, has cool ape costumes, really neat stuff. To bad the movie sucks. Once again, the original stays on top, as champ. It has better actors, a better script, more style, and ape make-up that still works. Make-up is the ONLY think the new one did right. I could think of a dozen "reboots" that dont live up to the original.

What could they make better about Predator? What could be brought to the table that the old one lacks?

Re: "Predator" reboot...

It's possible that maybe reboot may also mean, at least when certain people use it, restarting a long since dormant franchise. Aside from the AVP movies, there hasn't been a Predator movie since 1990.

Rebooting, at least in regards to Casino Royale and Batman Begins, is telling origins stories and establishing a continuity apart from previous entries in the series.

Re: "Predator" reboot...

I thought the AVP mess trashed the 2 series for life.
Then again - never underestimate hollywood's desire to see just how much garbage we'll eat.

They won't greenlight Rama, but perhaps Avatar will readjust a few of these cartoon directors.

Thats the truth!
You would think if they cant get AvP right after 2 movies, they wouldnt have a chance at P by itself!

Re: "Predator" reboot...

completely unnecessary and what will make it worse is that it will be rated pg-13.

what happened to the good ole days of 80's action flicks made with no care about getting an "r" rating?

Re: "Predator" reboot...

Is this movie considered bad? Why would they remake this one? Next they will want to remake Aliens....

While I agree that the movie may suck, it won't be PG-13. Rodriguez would never go for that. Sure, he's done kid's movies; but think of the Mexico trilogy, Dusk til Dawn and Grindhouse - all R.

Re: "Predator" reboot...

While they are at it, they should reboot Superman and Predator at the same time and do a cross-over (Superman v. Predator). Or how about, Superman v. Aliens. The reboots are rehashing old material and hoping that it will be an improvement, or promising it'll be an improvement because it's a reboot. Though a new series might have promise with Rodriguez at the helm and with a good, seasoned writer, A v P was a disaster because the writing was done poorly. Seeing the Predator show affection for a human in A v P part 1 was like watching Beauty in the Beast but with the beast as an alien. A v P part 2 was an improvement but not an extreme improvement. The best thing to do is leave it alone or do something new until the franchise simmers, I agree.

Re: "Predator" reboot...

The comic of Batman vs. Predator was pretty good! If you think about it, the Predator likes to hunt good game. What better game then batman!

Re: "Predator" reboot...

This looks like it is definitely a go, with a 7/9/2010 release date locked in. Check out Dark Horizons | News | Rodriguez Does "Machete", "Predators" - April 24th 2009 for the story.

I for one am intrigued.

Re: "Predator" reboot...

sigh

If they couldnt do anything interesting with Predator in the past 20 years what will make a "reboot" any different?

Re: "Predator" reboot...

I hope that anyone who even dares try to reboot, remake or rehash one of my favorire films of all time sits on a double-bladed gauntlet and shoots himself in the balls with a shoulder-mounted plasma caster!

In fact i've got an idea for a third sequel, we could have a Predator stalk and kill Hollywood studio executives who remake classic films. Those would be some skulls worth coveting.

I didn't know this was even happening! Nice to read that this new Predator film is an actual direct sequel to Arnold's film.
