Samsung HT-BD2T 7.1 System - Any good?

Hi all,

I'm finally putting together my first home theatre, and have already purchased a 52" Samsung LCD after studying the issue for awhile. I also purchased a Samsung HT-BD2T, 7.1 Blue-ray system, which was sort-of an impulse buy since it was on sale at Sams club. I didn't do any research on it (hey, it's a Samsung, right?), and was very concerned when I found some reviews on it, which were less than glowing; mainly concerning the fact that it will only play version 1.0 blueray discs and doesn't have many adjustments (I didn't realize this when I bought it!). I haven't opened the box yet, so I have a few questions:

1) Does anyone have this system, and do they like it?
2) Should I take it back and get separate components instead, including a more advanced Blue-ray player?

Please keep in mind that I don't want to spend a fortune on the system, and that ANYTHING would be an improvement over what I currently have.

Any comments would be very much appreciated. I really don't know what I should do here; Keep it, or return it and look for something else.

Thanks!

BOB

What is your budget?

Lots of reasons to NOT purchase ANY HTiB. Poor speakers, proprietary designs, and not being able to expand are a few of them.

My budget for the dvd/blue-ray and speakers is $1000.

Including receiver. I've decided to take the system back to Sams. Instead, I'm going to buy a PS3 and a Denon receiver/speaker set.

PS3 - Good choice.

Denon HTiB... I will try to talk you into checking out the Onkyo HTiB instead.

Amazon.com: Onkyo HT-S7100 7.1 Channel Receiver and Speaker Package: Electronics

You will need at least this level of AVR to take advantage of the HD formats from your PS3.

I bought it from Amazon for under $500. Works fine for my needs, especially at that price.
