Connecting PS3 help please..

I understand it's possible to use the external decoder inputs on my Yamaha (5 in all) to listen to the new codecs that the PS3 can decode - DTS HD, etc. Looked at the back of the PS3 and I'm lost.. How do I do this? What type of cord? Thanks so much!!

Re: Connecting PS3 help please..

Firstly, you cannot use the analog inputs on your receiver to get hi-res audio from the PS3. The PS3 only had provisions for 2 analog channels (left and right).

You need a receiver with an HDMI input that will accept LPCM over HDMI. From there you need to set the HDMI output of the PS3 to deliver LPCM and not bitstream over HDMI. This can be accomplished in the setup menu of your PS3.

If your reciver does not have an HDMI input that will accept LPCM then there is no way you can get multichannel hi-res audio.

I think I'm part of the reason he thought that. But, I thought we got it straightened out in the "PS3 Faq" thread. When I said he could use the 5.1 analog inputs of the receiver, I wasn't thinking he was using a PS3 (my mind was somewhere else, when I typed that). Again, I apologize Kevin, for misleading you on that.

Edison is right. You need a receiver that accepts LPCM over HDMI, or a receiver that decodes the HD audio formats. If your receiver does neither, then I'm afraid it's not possible to get the HD audio, with what you have.

You're not bugging us........................
I just didn't realize I wasn't clear, when I corrected myself earlier.
I guess it's like someone trying to proofread their own stuff. In their mind, they know what it's supposed to say, so they don't see the mistakes as easily as someone else does.
Keep asking any questions you have. That's what we're here for.
