CULVER CITY, CALIF. (January 26, 2009) – From filmmaker Sam Raimi (Spider-Man®, Army of Darkness) and acclaimed Japanese director Takashi Shimizu, comes the Blu-ray debut of The Grudge on March 24 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, coinciding with the DVD release of The Grudge 3. A terrifying tale of horror in the tradition of The Ring and 28 Days Later, the film stars Sarah Michelle Gellar (TV’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” Scream 2), Bill Pullman (Scary Movie 4, You Kill Me), Jason Behr (Skinwalkers), and Clea Duvall (Zodiac, 21 Grams) in the box office smash that grossed more than $110 million. The Grudge will be available on Blu-ray for $28.95 SRP, including both rated and unrated versions of the film, as well as a five part making-of featurette, a featurette on the fear response shown in the film, and commentary by Sam Raimi, Ted Raimi and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Sarah Michelle Gellar stars as an American nurse who has come to work in Tokyo. Following a series of horrifying and mysterious deaths, she encounters the vengeful supernatural spirit that possesses its victims, claims their souls, then passes its curse to another person in a spreading chain of horror. Now, she must find a way to break this supernatural spell or become the next victim of an ancient evil that never dies, but forever lives to kill.
The Grudge was directed by Takashi Shimizu from a screenplay by Takashi Shimizu and Stephen Susco. Sam Raimi, Taka Ichise, and Robert G. Tapert serve as producers. The film was co-produced by Michael Kirk, Aubrey Henderson, and Shintaro Shimosawa; and executive produced by Doug Davison, Joseph Drake, Nathan Kahane, and Roy Lee.
