Problem with Sony sound

Sony 46" XBR6
SciAnt DVR from Time Warner using HDMI connection
Yamaha receiver, only used for sound, no switching

This setup lets me listen through the tv speakers via HDMI, or the sound system using digital out from the DVR. Problem now is that I've lost the tv speakers. Switching out HDMI cable is no help. If I run audio from the DVR to the tv the tv speakers work fine, but only if HDMI is disconnected. So somehow using HDMI is interfering with the tv speakers. Must I change to component for video?
Thanks.

I had the same problem. I would have audio cut out several times during a movie. It was unpredictable and on different places within the same movie.

I did the Sony update and I have not had it happen again. Like you, I was using HDMI and tv speakers.
