The Manifesto that ended the practice of polygamy in 1890 did not deny the doctrine, but only the continued practice. Technically true for the LDS church. But, it would still be a PR nightmare for them because of the perceived double standard.
For the Hendricksen's it is still very much a symbol that their faith is justified by a greater body.
Of course, it's silly that either of those things would matter in the big picture. Faith should be faith without having to justify it to anyone or anything else.
