I've had a Sony Vaio PCG-GRV680 since it came out in 2003; it had a great matte screen with a 180 degree viewing angle (like many LCD tvs out there right now); but the old Vaio has finally died on me. So I've ventured out from my 6 year consumer slumber to find that laptop screens have apparently regressed 30 years to something that looks like an old projection screen television with a 50 degree viewing angle. Every laptop in Best Buy has this problem; I have to literally get down on my knees and look straight on to have a somewhat decent picture. All of the screens look dim, glassy and frankly awful.
Are there any black matte, 180 degree viewing angle LCDs still out there on laptops? I've been reading up on the Sony Vaio VGN-AR830E with X-BRITE, and I've seen claims it has a 180 degree viewing angle; but I've also read other accounts that it's glassy and dim. I wish I could see the thing for myself, but seemingly no one carries it in a store (Best Buy merely lists it for sale on its website - it's not in the store).
Can anyone point me in the right direction? The screen is the most important thing to me; if I can't see the display of the laptop, then what's the point?
