If its a Sony. You need to download the upgrade from Sony's website then copy to a cd then load cd into your player. It will update the blu-ray player from 1.0 to 2.0

I found out my new receiver didnt like the Die Hard 2 Blu-ray DTS soundtrack, it wouldnt play the audio. I e-mailed FOX about it Saturday night, and got a new disc in the mail today. How cool was that! The bad news, i still cant get the DTS to work on that movie. Guess i will have to live with the standard DD surround on that title for now.

Kudos to FOX for sending out a new disc so fast, however!

What's the corrected UPC for PotC: The Curse of the Black Pearl? Mine's 786936-724790. I've no way to actually check the disc since I don't own a Blu-ray player yet.

I just got Dollhouse today and for all three discs, my Oppo BDP-83 cannot get to the Main Menu.  It can play all the warnings and the Fox Blu-ray logo, but it just freezes from that point.  My Oppo has the latest firmware update.  I've contacted both Oppo and Fox.  I don't want to return it to the online retailer I purchased it from just yet.  Has anyone else experienced problems with this BD with the Oppo or any player?

I hope Fox contacts me back quickly like they did for RickER.

Thanks,
Keith

No problems on a Panasonic BD50.

I checked my cover and UPC is same as yours. But I don't think they would change the UPC for corrected disc. On the disc, mine says BVDL 016570 L.1 BVDL 016570 L0 2. Hope that helps you.

After posting, I found out that there is a glitch in the Oppo player.  When you change BD-Live Network Access to "Off", then exit the Setup then return, the setting is changed back to "On."  Oppo says that it is a confirmed glitch that will be addressed in a week or two.  Could it be that since I don't have an Internet connection from my player, that this could be the problem?  However, there is no mention of BD-Live on the Dollhouse case.

I have 30 days to return any defective item and if the firmware upgrade takes about two weeks, I have to figure out this fast!  I don't want to ship it back and find out the replacement does the same thing.

I'll post here what Fox tells me.

I checked the disc and it says BVDL - 08740 L0 1, BVDL - 08740 L1 2.  The Stock #53455 and it has L7041. I think I'm gonna call Disney to see if I need a replacement disc.
EDIT: Yeah mine's the defective one. I had to check online. I'm going to call Disney asap. Good thing I live in California I guess. I'm planning on purchasing both sequels on Blu-ray also as I've already sold the DVD's of them to "upgrade".

I had a problem with For Your Eyes Only, but I updated the BD player's firmware and it was fine. The disc played normally after that.

UPDATE!

The lady on the phone with Disney was quite kind and courteous. She'll be sending a mailer to send back Disc 1 of PotC: The Curse of the Black Pearl and in a seperate thing a whatever with all their current and upcoming releases. I also made two requests, you can make up to five, for titles to be released onto Blu-ray. I requested TRON and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Couldn't think of any others.

You should've asked for Song of the South, The Black Cauldron and The Hunchback of Notre Dame :). The last one will come out eventually, but the first two are movies that would only be released by pressure of the fans.

Not interested in their 1990's-fest of animation, especially Aladdin or The Lion King. I've seen neither of the first two. Was gonna request The Black Hole but .
Funny I had to check the disc for the error thing where the laser reads it since the Blu-ray player I purchased should be arriving this week.

The OP may want to update this list to indicate that there is a replacement program currently in place for the The Matrix Revolutions glitch noted in the first post.  Contact 800-553-6937 for a replacement.

Wondering if Disney's  PINOCCHIO should be here...since their is a missing word here and there?

Re: Truman Show aspect ratio. I'm surprised Gary at DVD Beaver missed this. I usually rely on him for discs to avoid. Unfortunately I've already ordered it. I hope it doesn't annoy me too much.
GLADIATOR should be part of the list since it has heavy DNR/EE and also jaggies for location titles. Here's hoping there'll be a disc replacement program.

Could you be more specific Bob, I just got Pinnochio, and only watched 15 mins so far, haven't noticed it yet. Hope its not too big a deal. Do you mean words of dialogue in the actual film missing?

DISCLAIMER: check Worth's post below, there is a strange cut in Poltergeist that has appeared in every home video release, and probably can't be helped anymore.

I hope this is not a general error but I had a glitch in my Poltergeist blu ray in Australia, where a skip would occur right at the point where the family go next door and ask their neighbours if they've noticed anything odd happening, and whether they've noticed a lot of mosquitoes. The scene right before this has the end cut off. (34m13s) Obviously this is only one disc, not sure if its a general problem, probably not.

If it's the scene that I'm thinking about, that's a deliberate edit. I forget the specifics but I think one of the characters said something disparaging about Pizza Hut so they cut that exchange out. I don't know if it was cut in the theaters or just on video but it's apparently been that way for years.

Just thought that I would post a problem I am having with Casino which I sourced from the US.

I have a UK Sony S360 player, which plays many discs fine (about 10 films so far). So I ordered Casino, it arrived brand new from amazon.com, put it in the player, began playing, all seemed fine. Then I skipped ahead a few chapters, I get to around halfway through the film and the player locks up. It begins to experience problems around chapter 8. The end chapters appear to be fine also, the problem appears to be around the middle of the film.

Have played the disc in a Playstation 3 and it is fine, chapter skips, plays through the middle ok.

So I can only assume its an incompatibility with the disc and machine.

Hope this helps.

Ben.

Fascinating. I wouldn't have bought it if I'd read this, so I guess I'm glad I hadn't read it, because its so lush on blu.

I hope you're right, Travis, because I have a sneaking suspicion 1) there's evidence of digital glitching when it skips (glitching may not be the right word, but perhaps you know what I mean.) And 2) I've only ever seen this on home video, and I've seen the end of that scene before. They jumped over the part where the family come to the resolution that they can't decide whether its a supernatural presence or they're just high, so they go to ask the neighbours.

UPDATE: Just watching Poltergeist again and can confirm that its definitely odd. It cuts the mother off mid sentence. She's talking about how it feels to get pulled by the poltergeist across the floor of the kitchen, then, mid-sentence, it flashes a bit strangely and cuts to them knocking on the neighbour's door. The time code doesn't skip, it just proceeds normally.

Again, this is probably not the right forum for this, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a general issue with the release.

I can't remember whether or not it was in the theatrical release, but that odd edit has been in every video version of the film:

Thankyou so much, Worth. I think I should put a disclaimer at the top of my original post to note that the issue is definitely not a blu-ray specific problem. I can't believe I don't remember noticing this last time I saw it. I probably did notice it, I just saw it so long ago.

Does the original post in this topic get updated? I'm wondering because Best Buy has the Pirates Blu-rays on sale and I don't know how to tell which BR's are defective and which BR's aren't.

This must be why it is only $10 at BB - I had it in my hands but thought it was cheap for a reason and put it back. Anyway, does anyone know if the the following Blu-rays have any problems:

The 2006 Black Hawk Down
A Fifth Element BD that was marked "old version" on the receipt(!)
Resident Evil (or any Sony Blu that retails for $15)

I try not to buy any early blu-rays for fear they may not be up to snuff but sometimes I just can't resist the non sticker-shock prices
Gone In 60 Seconds (from around 2007)

The only one that I can recall having problems is the Fifth Element.  The "old version" had a very poor transfer compared to the current SKU (think original Gangs of New York Blu-ray versus the remastered Blu-ray).

Also using the Oppo, mine play fine.  Maybe something they fixed later on.
