It's the worst looking Blu Ray I own. It doesn't have the crystal clear with just the right amount of grain that most Blu Rays have. Not all movies have perfect transfers, in fact very few do, but this movie is far below the average PQ from a Blu Ray.

Re: Blu-ray Glitch List - Titles you might want to avoid.

Just wanted to give kudos to MPI for replacing my copy of Baraka (original cardboard eco pack edition) which had a skipping problem in a number of chapters - exchange took about 5 business days and went very smoothly.

Regards,

P.S. From my personal experience, Warners has also been great about replacing defective/incorrect discs.

Re: Blu-ray Glitch List - Titles you might want to avoid.

You may want to add Starsky & Hutch 2004 (Stiller + Wilson). The UK region free Bluray release in March 2008 lacks the subtitles to convert the language spoken to english when the oriental gunmen speaks to his son about throwing many knives after Starsky & Hutch seize him in his apartment. This is present on the DVD. I contacted BVHE about it and just got a generic PR blowoff about sending my BD in to have it checked for errors. They obviously did not check the master prior to pressing or censored it for some reason. Warners will no doubt have the US rights but in the UK Buena Vista Home Entertainment have the release rights (like they also have a few other titles which came out on Region B way before Region A like Air Force One & Starship Troopers). Checked this on several different players with the latest BD Live updates & firmware and none would display it unless you selected English subtitles for the entire movie.

Not stretched as badly as The Truman Show, but still distorted nonetheless.

links to avs are blocked.

so what it the deal with truman show?

i popped it in the ps3 at work and didn't notice anything wrong.
Is this for all copies or just some?

It should be all copies, but it's a fairly subtle effect--it wasn't until I saw A/B images that I was able to see it.

Re: Blu-ray Glitch List - Titles you might want to avoid.

I'd like to add Friday the 13th Uncut to the list.

The disc has been inexplicably zoomed and some 10-11% of the frame is cropped.

Re: Blu-ray Glitch List - Titles you might want to avoid.

^ But like I've said in the F13 thread, how do you know that that isn't correct and the DVDs have been wrong?

Re: Blu-ray Glitch List - Titles you might want to avoid.

Until the DP comes foreward and says that this transfer is correct i'm going to continue to assume that it isn't.

The way I see it they wouldn't have gotten so many past OAR transfers wrong without someone noticing and fixing it to the transfer we have on this BD.

Something is amiss with this release IMO.

Re: Blu-ray Glitch List - Titles you might want to avoid.

For what it's worth, I think you're correct in saying that it's cropped. I'm not just ready to accept it as fact based solely upon the other transfers.

Re: Blu-ray Glitch List - Titles you might want to avoid.

Does anyone here know? Has the missing 10 second chord from the end credits Godfather Part II been restored to the BR disc?

For those who may not know, this error occurs just before the restoration credits begin.

It may be a small detail to some, but this is very important to me. I seldom sit though the end credits of most films, but I love the music of the Godfather trilogy, and to have even one note of music missing from the movie is, to me, unthinkable.

I would hope that a free exchange of a corrected replacement disc would be offered to those who were bothered by this.

Re: Blu-ray Glitch List - Titles you might want to avoid.

Is the HD-DVD of the Fugitive screwed up too? I'd almost buy that just to eliminate another snapcase from my collection. Personally, I'd rather have U.S. Marshals in hi def.

* Subtitle translation is incorrect.
! Magnolia does not consider this an issue and is not issuing replacements; instead, they will release a new version in the future with correct subtitles for purchase. Return your disc if you are dissatisfied with the incorrect subtitle translation.

Re: Blu-ray Glitch List - Titles you might want to avoid.

Some bad copies of The Chronicles of Riddick stop about 11 or 14 minutes into the Director's Cut, just after Riddick says "cute kid". No known reason for the error -- some discs are bum, some are fine, even if they have the same serial numbers on the inner ring. Not a firmware problem since getting a replacement disc will play through it fine (unless you get a disc that has the same problem, in which case, third time back to the store for you). Forum-folk say that a Mexican pressing plant known for weird problems is to blame.

Less serious, in that there's no good disc to hope to find, are reports that the center channel audio on Pitch Black is screwed up, dropping to inaudible levels sometimes.

They've *got* to be kidding me. Way to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory...

Why do I think that any number of US distributors employ people who hate film?

Re: Blu-ray Glitch List - Titles you might want to avoid.

Samsung just released firmware update 2.0 for the BDP 1000 and now the player can spin For Your Eyes Only.

Re: Blu-ray Glitch List - Titles you might want to avoid.

I think Raging Bull can be added. Some copies (or all copies, but not everyone notices it) have a small band at the right side of the screen that's about 10% lighter than the rest of the image on the screen. It's on the menus and supplements as well.

I didnt notice that.

Re: Blu-ray Glitch List - Titles you might want to avoid.

I have watched both YouTube videos showing the differences between the two versions of Starship Troopers that are out there and I can't for the life of me figure out what's different. I can tell something isn't quite the same but I'm not sure what and I've watched both videos several times now. I ordered my copy from Amazon.com about a month or so ago so should I even be worried?

My copy also wouldn't play in my Panasonic DMP-BD35 at first either. I kept seeing a loading screen and then the disc would stop. After poking around the internet a bit I discovered that this disc won't work right in this player unless an SD memory card is installed. I bought a 2GB card and put it in the SD card slot on my player and now the disc works fine.

Re: Blu-ray Glitch List - Titles you might want to avoid.

This review gives details of the changes. As I've found out, time doesn't necessarily matter; for example, my copy of the Pirates trilogy boxset had a flawed Black Pearl, despite believe that those discs would be out of hte supply chain by then.

Re: Blu-ray Glitch List - Titles you might want to avoid.

Looks like the right surround channels disappears from about the 1 hour 32 minute mark in Universal's Inside Man disc, and stays missing for the last 40 odd minutes.

Re: Blu-ray Glitch List - Titles you might want to avoid.

Has anyone else had any problems with The Searchers being way out of sync? On my copy, the audio lags way behind the video, you can see actors mouthing the first few words of their lines and then you hear them later. I've searched around and have only come across one or two mentions of it, but everyone else seems to say their blu-ray is fine.

This sounds like a lip sync issue with your receiver and TV. What is your setup?

Re: Blu-ray Glitch List - Titles you might want to avoid.

Just a simple HDMI connection from my Pioneer 51FD to my LG LCD and it's the only blu-ray that I've had any real noticeable problems. All my other blu-rays and DVD's play fine.

Actually I googled it and found it mentioned in several places including amazon. They are selling it for $7.99 there now and I was about to pull the trigger and saw that mentioned.

I just ordered the australian version of The Descent which by many accounts is superior and much more accurate brightness and color timing wise than either US edition...

Right now I'm going to return T2 Skynet edition. I can't believe the problems i'm having playing this disc on my Sony. I can't even get past the damn Studio Canel advert. I've tried every version of the movie & it gets stuck just after Studio Canel logo.

Which Sony do you have? All the first generation Sony players got a firmware update today.
