Video conversion and dvd players

Please suggest software to convert avi and mpg files to VOB.
I have a new vista computer, and my current software, AVS videotools, won't work. AVS doesn't respond to my queries, so I want to try something else.

Re: Video conversion and dvd players

Currently play DVDr's on a progressive DVD player.
TV is Sony 46" CRT XBR 1080i.
Would a blue ray player give me a better picture, or is the TV upconverting giving me the best already?
Thanks!

Re: Video conversion and dvd players

A true 1080P from a BluRay player would give the best picture. BluRay players generally have very good up-converters in them (better than most standard dvd players).

Can't answer your first question, though .

Re: Video conversion and dvd players

For normal AVI and MPG files - Nero Vision (comes with Nero).

If you get them from the internet, you are on your own. Virus' and other nice things included.....

Re: Video conversion and dvd players

Mark,

I would suggest taking a look at SUPER. Its free and comes highly recommended from the people that run the Life Hacker blog, which is one of the blogs I read on a daily basis. FYI - if you're worried about bloatware, spyware, viruses, etc. Life Hacker has, to my knowledge, never recommended a program that has those issues.

Good overview on solid, free media converters:

Hive Five: Five Best Media Converters

SUPER website:

SUPER © .

Hope this helps.
