Re: Scrubs - Season 8

Does anyone know why a cast member is missing from each episode? Is ABC trying to keep costs down or something?

Re: Scrubs - Season 8

Both episodes last night were early season Scrubs quality. I like the slow transition they are making with the intern, Denise ("Jo"). I really hope, ABC forces a 9th season. The new interns could make for a halfway decent cast as long as they keep Cox & Janitor around.

It is being done on purpose by the producers. They claim its because they have a large cast and want to focus on different characters each week. Which is fine, but why have JD on the phone to make it glaring that he's not there? I actually didn't notice anyone else was missing previously.

Janitor was missing from the first episode last night (and 1 or 2 others this season). The new interns, who are supposed to the focus of this season since they are being prepped to carry the show should it return for a 9th season, are inconsistent.

I think I read in the credits that Zach Braff was directing the first episode last night, Feb. 10. That's why I assumed he wasn't in the episode except for on the telephone.

Re: Scrubs - Season 8

Unfortunately the ratings are not good at all for Scrubs on ABC. It only got a 2.8/4 rating this week for the hour.

I hope they get better or this really will be the last season.

Re: Scrubs - Season 8

I wonder if the move to Wednesday will help or hurt. With those kind of ratings, things can't get much worse so hopefully it'll help.

I thought this was going to be the last season of Scrubs.

This is the third season in a row that was supposed to the "last" season of Scrubs. I had read that even though this is planned to truly be the final season, Bill Lawrence - at ABC's option, said he would come back for a 9th season if they ordered it.

Since some of series regulars have already said this would definitely be their final season with the series, the focus was supposed to shift to the interns since Season 9+ would revolve around these newer characters (Scrubs: The Next Generation?). The only one I like is Denise. The rest of the newbies are too underdeveloped.

Re: Scrubs - Season 8

I believe that there is/was a chance for it to continue on without the main players. Probably with the current interns becoming main characters.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't see your reply Rhoq.

No need to apologize.

I was reading earlier - Bill Lawrence said that once Zack Braff leaves at the end of Season 8, Scrubs is done. He said that without Braff, it would be a completely different show and if asked to return for a 9th Season, he'd consider a name change since it wouldn't really be "Scrubs" any more without it's main character.

I actually like the new interns (Sunny, Katie, Howie and Denise).

Re: Scrubs - Season 8

I was so glad Cox fired the Indian guy. He was getting on my last nerve.

Re: Scrubs - Season 8

I have to agree about the Indian guy. He just didn't seem to fit in.

I think my fav is Denise. Damn is she harsh! She's like an Anti-Dorian.

Re: Scrubs - Season 8

This is so weird, there was a scene in one of the past couple of episodes( ABC's?) where I saw the Indian guy(is his character's name Ed?) reminded me so much of the young intern JD when he first came to Sacred Heart.

"Denise" (Eliza) was my prom date back in HS, among other things. She is hilarious and I'm glad she is getting exposure. Couldn't happen to a better person.

Yes we do. This Wednesday at 8:00.

From Zap2it:

Scrubs 8.11 "My Nah Nah Nah":

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Turk thinks a risky procedure might restore a paralyzed teenager's ability to walk; Cox and the Janitor run into romantic roadblocks.

Re: Scrubs - Season 8

Just a heads up that tonight's an hour-long send-off for Zach Braff in the season finale, and possibly series finale if Scrubs isn't brought back (sans Zach and probably also Judy Reyes (Carla)) next season.

Last night was the start of Zach's leaving of Sacred Heart as he took a job to be closer to his son, working at the same hospital has his son's mom.

Awesome backflip by Cox.

Re: Scrubs - Season 8

A little rough going early on, but over all one of the best finales I've ever seen. The last five minutes before the bloopers actually got me quite emotional. First with the incredible accumulation of past guest stars (including Colin Hay!) on the long hallway out, and then the incredible 8mm montage of his imagined future with these characters that we know and love.

To be honest with you, I hope they don't renew it next year. It's been getting pretty tired for a few years now, and this episode demonstrated how integral J.D. is to the show's success.

Re: Scrubs - Season 8

I wasn't feeling it for the first 2/3, but the last third brought it full circle for the most part.

Re: Scrubs - Season 8

Great finale. Totally got me.

(I'll even let it slide that JD's Prius shouldn't have had an ignition cranking sound as he started it up and drove away at the end...)

Re: Scrubs - Season 8

Can I just say "what Adam said?" He summed it up pretty well.

Re: Scrubs - Season 8

I agree the show wasn't nearly as good over the past few seasons. My personal gripe was the "will they/won't they" sitcom trope they forced onto Elliot and JD. And there was a long stretch where JD was a self-absorbed douche. But it was a nice finale for the series (a series which does require JD, though Cox and Turk made me laugh far more), and I loved the Peter Gabriel version of the song. Which is NOT available as a standalone 99 cents on iTunes

Scrubs was a great show. When it was on (which was pretty often in the first few seasons), it was great stuff. A decent finale.

I disagree. The episode prior to the trip to the Bahamas, was completely void of "JD" and voice overs (except for a quick one at the end by "Elliot", when pondering her future as a doctor). Most of the regulars were missing from this episode and it focused on Elliot & Turk and the new interns. Immediately afterwards, I felt that this episode was more of test to see if if the show would work without Zach Braff and I think, for the most part, it worked quite well.

While I will agree that the show has seen better days, and Scrubs as we know it is over and shouldn't be brought back. Bill Lawrence has suggested that 9th season with a mostly new cast (the interns) is a definitely possibility that ABC has been confirmed to be mulling over for the 2009-2010 TV season. Based on the episode I mentioned above (Scrubs 0813 - "My Full Moon"), I'd be up for a completely re-tooled show featuring the remaining characters from Scrubs and the new interns. Some familiar faces with a new show title could work. It would be sort of a spin-off but still take place at Sacred Heart.

Also it looks like:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Bill Lawrence confirmed that "Glenn Mathews" is the Janitor's real name. While he doesn't explicitly says so, the way he answered a question in this interview pretty much verifies it, despite the swerve imediately after the reveal in "My Finale". It's the final section of the interview directly underneath the photo of "Janitor" (Neil Flynn).

Re: Scrubs - Season 8

Agreed, a really fine finale. I hadn't been watching the show (I'll catch it on dvd) but I am glad to have seen the ending live, to share in the moment as it happened. Bravo.

Re: Scrubs - Season 8

My favorite scene was the quiet one between J.D. and Carla.

"Thank you for being my teacher."

Man, I lost it right there.

Re: Scrubs - Season 8

Would it have killed Brendon Frasier to have stopped by for the hallway scene?
