New TV and old receiver.

I won a new 42LG50 LCD TV from work and I am going to use this in place of an older, non-HDTV Plasma. I also have an old Pioneer VSX-D608 receiver that I am trying to use w/ the new TV.

When hooking everything up to it, I noticed that the new TV does not have an input/output for the center channel speaker. Is there a way to make this happen ? If not, how would I make the TV the center channel speaker ?

I am also looking to get new rear surround speakers. I bought the Energy Take 5 set-up when I bought the receiver.

Thanks in advance for any help that can be thrown my way !

IMHO, no one in their right mind should use the TV speakers as their center channel. There is just too much of a timbre difference between TV speakers and dedicated HT speakers, and the front soundstage would be awful, no matter how cheap your front speakers are. Personally, I'd rather have 3 inexpensive timbre matched speakers across the front than 2 hugely expensive fronts and the TV speakers as a center.

Can you not run all your speakers from your receiver? That is what they are designed for. Your audio should go from the source to the receiver, and then all sound from the receiver goes to your speakers.

Your center channel should connect to your receiver, right where the rest of the speakers are attached.

Okay. Maybe I didn't ask my question correctly.

All of my speakers are connected to my receiver. My receiver has to be connected to the TV correct ? The back of the new TV has just left and right audio outputs.

Will the receiver determine what sound should be going thru the center speaker ?

I thought the old TV I replaced it with had a center speaker output.

When listening to the surround sound out of your receiver, the TV has nothing to do with the audio, whether it is the center speaker or any other speaker. Nothing has to be attached, audio-wise, from the TV to the receiver. Some old TV's may have had a center speaker output, but these were very few and basically a gimmick.

Not necessarily. What other equipment do you have? Cable boxes, satellite receivers, DVD players, etc. Manufacturer and model numbers are extremely helpful.

The only other item connected to the receiver was a DVD player that has now been replaced w/ a Playstation 3. This is hooked up via HDMI.
