Plumbing problem, probably DWV

I have a 2 story house, very old.
Recently unpleasant water has be appearing in the downstairs tub and then eventually in the sink in the bathroom.
No problems in the kitchen sink, which is some distance away and certainly (I guess) on another vent.
So, probable cause is a blocked/clogged vent???
Bought something at Home Depot to see if I can clear it. Ladder time tomorrow.

But, why is water, clear clean water, now coming up and overflowing that bathroom sink? It may be coming up in the tub also, but very slowly (bigger surface area) but, I can't really keep up with that sink.
Where is the water coming from?

Obviously water flows down hill. So the water is coming further up the sewer pipe. If this started recently, it sounds like something clogged down stream.

drobbins,
Oh, never mind.

Water does not flow at all if you close the gate valve in the pump house.
That's my solution for now.
I also am the proud new owner of a utility pump which can join my collection of seldom if ever used tools.
But, it was real useful today.
