Denon vs Pioneer Bluray Player ?

While I am not going to be buying a new bluray player until the middle of 09'. I was wondering which bluray player would be a better choice? I am looking at one of the following players 1). Denon DVD-2500 or 2). Pioneer BDP05 FD. I currently own a Sony BDP-S300 bluray and my goal is to upgrade to a higher end player with better build quality. I am not a big fan of the slim players so these are the main ones I am looking at. I see that Sony has a new BDP-S5000 that might fit my needs but $2k is out of my reach currently.

Has anyone had a chance to put these two players head to head?

My next receiver that will replace my Yamaha RX-V995 will most likely be the Denon AVR-3808ci. That will do all the decoding even though many of the players will decode everything. I would love to hear about any issues anyone may have had? I would like to know about how good ether player is and what one might be the better deal?

Re: Denon vs Pioneer Bluray Player ?

The Pio's (51/05) have had numerous problems with disc play, but they've been getting better with each new firmware. If you're not planning to buy for another 6 months or so, I'd wait and ask the question then.
Not only is there a chance, the players will behave totall differently at that time then they do now, but there could also be other contenders for your dollar (like the upcoming Oppo).

Re: Denon vs Pioneer Bluray Player ?

Thanks for the heads up on the Pioneer, its a shame that its having problems because it sounded like it would be a great player. It will be at least another 6 months or so before I replace my current Sony BDP-S300. First I need to replace my old receiver then it is off to get a new bluray player.
