Hawaii Five-O - Fan Site Provides a Season 8 DVD Release Date

No studio confirmation yet, but info from this website has been borne out before

Mike J. Quigley's MJQ.net/FiveO fan site has scored another coup for fans of the classic Jack Lord series. The Hawaii Five-O website now says: "SEASON EIGHT - COMING MARCH 16TH, 2010!" The studio hasn't announced the title yet, so we don't have official confirmation of that info so far. However, Quigley's information has proven accurate in the past, so we have no reason to doubt it this time. Our thanks to reader Lee Hubbard for tipping us off about this! Stay tuned for updates

Glad you noticed! It was me that posted that as a customer image there, after having scanned the back of the box.

You're asking for our favourite episodes from Season 9 or episodes from any season of Hawaii Five-O? I didn't see a lot of the ninth season when it was shown on Granada Plus, but I very much liked "Nine Dragons" and "Assault on the Palace".

The release date for the seventh season on Region 2 DVD is now Monday 22nd March, 2010. Source is Play.com. However Amazon.co.uk still has no Region 2 release date.

Hope it's alright to post this Hawaii Five-O video here, which was posted on YouTube. I found out about it on the Hawaii Five-O Home Page's guestbook in the last couple of weeks. It's two Jack Lord episodic promos edited together - the first promo is for the Season 9 episode "Assault on the Palace", followed by the second episodic promo, which is for the Season 10 premiere "Up the Rebels".

Are there any other Hawaii Five-O Jack Lord episodic promos on YouTube, from seasons 8 to 12 (especially the feature length and two-part episodes)?
hopefully we will see the 8th and 9th seasons in 2010. I love this show. I really like to have all 12 seasons, but, realize the series started to wane near the 11th season.

The BBFC have added to their website today the 24 Jack Lord episodic promos for the seventh season Region 2 DVD boxset. Altogether they have been given a 12 certificate and have a total running time of 23 minutes.

Can anyone tell me the plot of the 9th season episode, Dealer's Choice...Blackmail?  It sounds very interesting and I would love to know a little more about it.  Thanks!

Thanks for link to the website!  I really appreciate the prompt answer to my question!  I'm sorry that I didn't explain very well what I wanted to know about this particular episode.

The Ministry of Peace website told that the man hit by the car in the episode, Dealer's Choice...Blackmail, was McGarrett's friend and the witness who decided to blackmail the killers instead of talking to the police about it, was Officer Sandi Welles' brother.  I wondered how McGarrett had reacted to both pieces of information.  In addition, I had hoped that viewers who had seen this particular episode could reveal more of the plot that the brief synopsis has that has been posted on the internet.

Regarding the eighth season boxset, are there any episodes which would create music clearance problems?

Also, does anyone have any theories on what the front cover artwork will be? Obviously it will have Danno, Duke and Chin Ho along with McGarrett, but being as the last two front covers (for the sixth and seventh season sets) had nighttime scenes I've been wondering waht CBS DVD will do for the eighth season set. Bearing in mind some or all of the first five sets had daytime scenes in the background.

I assume there will be six discs again for the 23 episodes in the eighth season set (this is if you count the season premiere "Murder - Eyes Only" as one feature-length episode), and that the episodes will be on the discs like this...

Disc 1:

1. Murder - Eyes Only (fingers crossed there is a Jack Lord episodic promo included in the set)

2. McGarrett is Missing
3. Termination with Extreme Prejudice

Disc 2:

4. Target? The Lady
5. Death's Name is Sam
6. The Case Against McGarrett
7. The Defector

Disc 3:

8. Sing a Song of Suspense
9. Retire in Sunny Hawaii -- Forever
10. How to Steal a Submarine
11. The Waterfront Steal

Disc 4:

12. Honor is an Unmarked Grave
13. A Touch of Guilt
14. Wooden Model of a Rat
15. Deadly Persuasion

Disc 5:

16. Legacy of Terror
17. Loose Ends Get Hit
18. Anatomy of a Bribe
19. Turkey Shoot at Makapu

Disc 6:

20. A Killer Grows Wings
21. The Capsule Kidnapping
22. Love Thy Neighbour -- Take His Wife
23. A Sentence to Steal.

Re: Hawaii Five-O's eighth season, I believe that TVshowsondvd.com will post the artwork late this month. It will probably be a lighter color than the seventh season and maybe also be a night time scene. I'm hoping that sometime soon Paramount will present a red cover for the front art of one of the Hawaii Five-O seasons. The periwinkle blue, orange and purple covers for seasons 2, 4 and 6 were so pretty! I can't hardly wait until season 8 comes out!

Thanks for replying. I'm hoping "Murder - Eyes Only" will be presented in the boxset as the feature-length version. I remember seeing this episode during Christmas '98 or '99 on Granada Plus, and thinking how different the show felt to the episodes I'd seen in Hawaii Five-O's seventh season. It felt like the show was on a bigger stage. Thought the same when Granada Plus showed "Nine Dragons" during the same Christmas.

Is this the front cover artwork for the Season 8 boxset for Hawaii Five-O? Just been browsing on Play.com and they have a listing for the set. There's no release date yet but you can register interest in the title. The artwork looks genuine. The URL link to the Play.com listing is below:

Thanks for posting this discovery, Wavecrest. I'm not sure what to make of it. The images of Danno/Duke/Chin and the background images all seem appropriate and official-looking, but the Jack Lord image is downright bizarre. I'd estimate it to be from around season 2, and it doesn't appear to be any type of screen-capture image from an episode. Rather, it appears to be some type of promotional/marketing image of Lord (for CBS?) from back in 1969, and it's also been overly photoshopped from what I can tell when you enlarge the image (this enlarging option is located below the smaller image of the box art).

Secondly, it appears upon closer examination that CBS-Paramount is no longer using the box/slipcase, but instead it seems they have switched to an amaray case, similiar to the ones that releases such as Cannon, Fugitive, Perry Mason, Untouchables, and many other CBS-P releases come in these days (notice the white border around the art, the spine background looks different and is a solid color instead of the background scenery from the front cover, and the edges of the top and bottom spine appear rounded). It's smaller packaging and is most likely saving them a lot of money as they continue with these releases. I guess I'm fine with it as long as the cost savings keeps the series coming to completion with the last 5 seasons. It will save shelf space in the long run for me, despite the fact I would have preferred all the seasons match.

Overall, I'm guessing this is official 'temp' artwork that could easily change in the next few weeks, but it probably won't unless there is a serious error with it (whether the Jack Lord image is considered an 'error' is debateable). It's just one of the oddest-looking pics of Jack Lord I've ever seen.

The images of Danno, Duke and Chin Ho are likely from the eighth season (especially Duke, as he moved from being a uniformed officer to a plain clothes detective in the eighth season). If this artwork is the same as what CBS DVD have done for the Region 1 set, then they seriously need to try and find an image of Jack Lord as McGarrett from 1975 (when the eighth season was filmed).

I've read a lot of good things about the ninth season premiere "Nine Dragons", but I don't read many comments about the eighth season premiere "Murder - Eyes Only". What did people think of it? In hindsight it reminded me of Magnum's pilot episode.

Below is the URL link to the BBFC listing page for the Jack Lord episodic promos for the seventh season (on Region 2):

Hawaii Five-O: The Seventh Season (6 Discs) (Region 2) - Jack Lord episodic promos (source: BBFC website)

The overall running time of the episodes (when you include a Jack Lord episodic promo with the episode it's for) in Season 7 range from 48 mins 53 secs for "Diary of a Gun", to 49 mins 24 secs for the episode "The Two-Faced Corpse". This is at PAL speed (well they should be for Region 2 DVD).

Was "Diary of a Gun" cut on Region 1? It seems to have a shorter running time than the other 23 episodes in this season.

So to date, the first seven seasons of Hawaii Five-O have been given the following certificates by the BBFC (for the season overall):

The First Season (1968-69) - 12 certificate

The Second Season (1969-70) - 12 certificate

The Third Season (1970-71) - 15 certificate

The Fourth Season (1971-72) - 12 certificate

The Fifth Season (1972-73) - 12 certificate

The Sixth Season (1973-74) - 15 certificate

The Seventh Season (1974-75) - 12 certificate.

I'd like to know that myself, where you can watch the episode promos for the eighth season of Hawaii Five-O (as I haven't found any on YouTube), so I know if some or all of the 23 eighth season episodes have Jack Lord episode promos.

TVShowsOnDVD posted a new news article about the Season 8 (Region 1) set earlier this evening, confirming the street date posted on Mike Quigley's Hawaii Five-O fansite. Not much else in the article, other than there will be episode promos included (although it dosen't say how many of the 23 episodes in this season will have episode promos). The URL link to the news article is below:

If the Region 1 boxsets change to the plastic cases with the discs inside, then it'll be what the Region 2 sets have been like since the fourth season was released on DVD. The first three seasons on Region 2 were the same as the Region 1 sets, a cardboard outer box with the three/four slipcases containing the discs inside. But since then, the fourth, fifth and sixth seasons have had the plastic cases with the discs inside. The plastic cases are slightly not as wide as the cardboard outer boxes.

If the image of Jack Lord is changed (it should be changed), then I hope CBS DVD keep the background image of the surfer on the wave.

It's already been reported on the Hawaii Five-O Home Page (no surprises that it was posted on there first) but TVShowsOnDVD posted a news article on their website nearly an hour ago (well that was when I received a notificiation email from TVShowsOnDVD) about the front cover artwork. It's exactly the same on the front cover as the Region 2 artwork, except that the Region 1 boxset will continue with the cardboard outer box after all, and not changing to the plastic case, which is what the Region 2 version has been since the fourth season was released on DVD. I had a Play.com pre-order availability notification email earlier today for the Hawaii Five-O: Season 8 (Region 2) DVD boxset. Season 9 will be released on Region 2 in the UK on 10th May. I doubt this will be the correct release date as it's less than two months after Season 7 is released (22nd march). There was a 30th November release date for Season 7, only two months after Season 6 was released, and that ws put back till 22nd March.

Below is the URL link to the Play.com pre-order page for Hawaii Five-O: The Eighth Season on Region 2:

I would think that date would be incorrect, especially when the http://www.mjq.net/fiveo/ has made no reference to 9th season. I would think we would see late summer or early fall for the 9th season.

I am still looking forward to the 8th season in march. There has been little activity on dvds this year, but, there are decent releases that i am looking for with great interest.

What I referred to in my last post was Season 8, but I'm assuming that Season 9 will be out on Region 1 around October/November. But now that the CBS Television Syndication Distribution Bible website is now no longer available to view by the general public, we will have no idea when Season 9 will have been transferred to HD, and when it will be released on Region 1, until it's reported on Mike Quigley's Hawaii Five-O website. But if we go by when Season 7 was released on Region 1 (October 2009), then it should be around October/November this year when Season 9 will come out. It's very good to see CBS DVD steaming along with Hawaii Five-O, whilst retaining the impressive picture quality with each season on DVD (along with the Jack Lord episode promos).

Amazon.co.uk now have a pre-order link for Season 8 on Region 2, and it's the same release date as Play.com's, Monday 10th May. Now I'm certain that when Play.com had the pre-order release date of 30th November last year, and Amazon.co.uk put up their own page they never put a release date on there. But with Amazon's page for the Hawaii Five-O: Season 8 (Region 2) set it must be coming out in May in the UK, only seven weeks after Season 7 is released.
I really love this series but this last season seems to take a dip in quality. I am referring to season seven. Jack Lord seems less dynamic in this season. He doesn't seem to play as central a part of the story or action that he did in  the previous seasons. Also, much of the cast is gone. As I said, I love the show but I think there is a noticeable decline in season seven. I wonder what others think.
hawaii five-o too me was the strongest in the first few years with Chin Ho Kelly, Danno, Kano and McGarrett. Kelly and Danno remain, but, they added a couple different characters and then promoted Duke to the team. I still like the show, because of Jack Lord and will be picking up the 8th season in March. There is some talk they are going to remake the show having McGarrett son take over the reigns. However, Kano/Kelly and McGarrett are all dead, so i am unclear how you would be able to link the stories, unless you some how bring Danno into the fold.
