Hello all. Buying a new home. Pre-wiring of a 5.1 system in place that has the surrounds ceiling mounted. I would be interested in using in-ceiling speakers here (the previous owner used ceiling mounted speakers) as it is a cleaner look. However, for LCR, I would be interested in using bookshelf. Can a configuration like this work? If so, in this scenario, is it best to stick with the same speaker manufacturer for all speakers? Thanks!

I don't have any real experience with ceiling speakers but since it's often recommended that surrounds be mounted above the listening position it might be O.K. There might be some issues with "circular" sound originating from the L,F,C then going up to the ceiling and back down again but it's for you to decide if it bothers you at all.Quote:
