Re: HDMI Denon AVR-588 =No Audio?
Here is the description of this receiver, straight from Denon's site. I made the important sentence bolder:
The AVR-588 is an exciting entry level home theater A/V surround receiver providing astounding performance at a moderate price. Using Analog devices Melody series processing, dynamic performance from Dolby Digital and dts sources truly stand out from the pack. To keep up with today's technology, HDMI v1.3a video switching has been added for HD digital sources providing high quality video realism and ease of use. The AVR-588 is even network ready when used with the optional ASD-3W/3N iPod docking station, offering expanding listening sources from your home network. Add to that XM radio ready, 2 zone capability and an updated simple remote, the AVR-588 will deliver great performance without breaking the bank.
It looks like the HDMI is for ease of video switching, instead of sending audio. You'll just need to use the digital coax or optical, since you said they work fine.
BTW....
Did you assign the HDMI inputs on the receiver, to whatever you plugged into them? The manual should tell you how. Maybe the audio will work then. But from their description, it doesn't sound like it. It's definitely not going to decode the new HD audio formats over HDMI...........
