Hmmm Transformers 2 does look like the film to beat this year. It might end up making more in it's opening weekend than T4 does in it's entire run. Well I enjoyed the first and I'm looking forward to seeing the sequel.

At this point, the only movie I see that has a shot at taking the #1 spot from the 'Transformers' sequel is Jim Cameron's "Avatar".

And thats only 6 months away Terry, I can't wait. More than 10 years since Cameron directed the most successful movie of all time (unadjusted), will history repeat itself? We shall see.

I just have no interest in it. Then again, I diddn't like the first one. But I am eager for HP6. Maybe it won't challenge for the title, but I'm betting it doesn't fair poorly, either

It won't challenge for the title domestically, but it will (very) likely end up being the year's biggest global grosser. The HP flicks are huge internationally.

As for "Avatar", the video (Fanboyz.net Blog Archive James Cameron Previews Video Game for Avatar) with Cameron explaining the plot and other various things really got me amped to see it. I doubt it'll be the same sort of hit that "Titanic" was, but I do think the movie has the potential to be the year's biggest hit.

I DIDN'T like the first one, but I know I'll see the second one - I'm a sucker for loud summer flicks!

Is Avatar 3D only? I don't think it'll have the number of screens to beat Transformers, but I do think it'll be a far better movie.

It's also not a pre-existed franchise and I think it being more of an epic action type of film I think the winter holiday release is less than ideal (not saying it can't work, but a summer release would've been more ideal).

I also think expectations set the bar higher for the two movies. Transformers is based on a (and I can say this having said I *lived* *ate* and *breathed* Transformers as a kid) silly cartoon/toy franchise ... I think if Transformers has some what of a wonky plot or bad dialogue, it gets a pass as long as there's enough explosions, bright colors, and Megan Fox. Avatar is going to be judged a lot more harshly, it will have to be a very good film, revolutionary, good story, but fun at the same time, etc. etc.

I think Avatar will do well, but I'm thinking it'll do more like "I Am Legend" type of box office.

somn Jedifongers? Land of the Lost eh? Hmmm I'm predicting a $97.5m opening for this one, yeah Will Ferrell, has to be a huge opening. I'll probably see it twice in one week. Damn I still haven't seen T4 and I want to see it before the other bigger robot movie comes out.

Funny thing about Transformers, I never watched the cartoon series, too old by then. I knew next to nothing about the characters, in fact the only thing I knew was that the great Orson Welles did one of the voices in the cartoon movie. So I saw Michael Bays movie and thoroughly enjoyed it despite the fact I didn't have a clue what was going on in the big battle, robots v robots who were the good guys and who were the bad? They all looked the same to me. Did it matter? Just sit back, switch off, ogle Megan and enjoy the mayhem. Which is what I'll be doing with p.2.

It seems the marketing machine for Transformers has definately kicked it. I'll sometimes see 2-3 commercials on a one hour show.

My prediction is that, whether it's great or terrible, Land Of The Lost is going to be the flop of the summer. Now that I've said, you can guarantee that it'll be a hit.

Universal is expecting "Land of the Lost" to pull in between $25-$35 million. "Up" is the odds-on-favorite to win the weekend, pulling in more than $40 million. WB execs will be happy with a debut north of the $20 million mark for "The Hangover".

the reviews have not been kind to land of the lost. I never had plans to see it. I cann't stand will ferrell. besides it cann't be worse then bewitched? right?

I was looking at the Worldwide box office chart at Mojo and was shocked to see Angels & Demons at no.1 with $360m! 2nd was Monsters vs Aliens, 3rd Fast and Furious, 4th Wolverine and Star Trek was no.5 with $314m, was glad to see Taken up there at no.6.

Angels & Demons overseas take was double it's US gross. Looks like Terminator Salvation is going to struggle to pass $200m worldwide, hard to believe after all that hype.

It is interesting, because I was pretty sure Taken was released in Europe in 2008.. but I think that's the strange part. I have friends who live in Japan who have told me that Ponyo is very good.. but I know it was out last summer over there. It must be getting a US release date sometime this year.

I'm going to predict crash and burn for land of the lost. I'd offer $9.50, but I figure it will do better then that, though it shouldn't. Let's say, $29M.

Of the newcomers, my guess is that "The Hangover" beats "Land of the Lost", despite the former's R rating. I think "Up" stays on top for another week, though.
