Please Help!! I have little background when it comes to home theater. I have an old Sony, I think 2003. The DVD player/VCR is model SLV-D300P and the receiver is model HT-DDW650. I have it set up to my 32" Sharp tv. I do have Charter cable. What I am wanting to do is to run the tv shows and tv movies through the system. Right now I can only have the surround sound when I'm listening to the tuner or cd, or watching a DVD. How do I wire it to get this to happen??? Please Help!!!! Thanks

Re: Hook up to run through tv
Welcome to the forum, Tim.A few questions:
Do you have a cable box/DVR? If so, what is the make and model? (Cable companies don't make their own equipment. Most cable boxes are built by Scientific Atlanta, Motorola or another manufacturer.)
Do you have analog cable, digital or HD service?
What is the make and model of your television?
How do you have all this stuff connected currently? (Which outputs are running to what inputs using what kind of cables?)
Without this information (especially the TV and cable box model numbers) there really isn't enough information for any of us to offer any concrete suggestions.
Regards,
Joe
Re: Hook up to run through tv
Hi Joe. First I want to thank you for reviewing my question. I think I have all the info you wanted to help me out.First, the tv is a Sharp 32" model 32L-S400B, made in june of 1999.
Second, the cable box is a Motorola model DCT 700/us. Charter says I have digital cable.
Third, as for hook up, I followed the connection guide that came with it, but what that looks like is this:
1) a supplied orange colored ended cable that plugs into a orange socket, runs from the back of amp, plugs into Digetal DVD in-coaxial. Then runs back to the DVD/VCR and plugs into a orange socket marked Digital audio out-coaxial.
2) a supplied yellow colored ended cable that plugs into a yellow colored socket on the DVD/VCR marked Line out Video. Then runs back to the tv and plugs ints a yellow socket marked Video Input on the back of the tv.
3) a supplied cable that has a red, and a white colored plugs, runs from the DVD/VCR marked Line Out, back to the amp, which has red and white sockets also, and plugs into what is marked Video In. This connection is called Video 1.
Do you think you can help me? I hope I got all the issues you need. Again, I thank you for your help!!

Re: Hook up to run through tv
Hi Tim,
If you want surround sound for your TV programing, it's pretty simple. All you need to do is send an audio signal from your cable box to your model HT-DDW650 receiver. If both the cable box and receiver support digital (the orange connector in the cable box), use that. If not, you can use the standard red/white audio connections.
