Do I need more than 1GB memory stick for Profile 2.x BD players?

i've had 2 HTPCs with lg ggc-h20l for the last few years, and now just bought a panasonic BD35k.

this'll be my 1st standalone media player since 5+ yrs ago =P. i've been using HTPCs for everything except DVD-Audio and SACDs.

profile 2.0 spec. says 1GB is enough, but will the player or BD 2.0 spec'd players use more than 1GB? should i buy 2GBor more?

thanks.

oh and will it work with SDHC 8GB+?

I would buy the cheapest SD card/USB flash drive readily available that's compatible/needed with your particular player. Maybe 2/4GB since 1GB might be hard to find and may not be much cheaper. Content producers have to target the lowest common denominator so they shouldn't be going nuts using up memory. I get the feeling that most of these BD-live features are going to be pretty stupid anyway and won't get much use.

Network = good for firmware updates, Netflix streaming on the newest LG/Samsung. BD-live = Meh.

i know, but WILL the content take up that much space? if so, i'll get the 4GB.

if i knew that the player takes SDHC standard, i'd go for the 16GB . i can't turn on the machine without it, right?

ed, yes, there is only one JediFonger on the internet . i haven't visited S&V in a LONG LONG TIME.

I guess it depends if you have all the released Profile 2.0 / BD-Live Blu-ray movies in your library and, ... you don't want to erase what you've downloaded.

Otherwise, the BD-Live mandatory spec's just requires 1 GB, ... but many have used a 2 GB (or more?) memory stick.

Once I got my Sony BDP-S350, I slipped-in my PNY Attache 1 GB USB Stick and it's still has a lot's of space after I downloaded what's available for:

Wall-E
Ironman
Forbidden Kingdom
Transformers
Men in Black

You can turn-on the machine without the memory, ... it would basically just be a Profile 1.1 machine.

S&V, ... "Now, that's a name I've not heard in a long time. A long time."

can the player display how much space the memory has left? will it maintain itself by deleting old stuff?

i should have thought of this earlier. i went on panasonic's website and downloaded the manual.

When using cards from 4GB to 32GB, only SD cards using the SDHC logo can be used.

so it WILL accept SDHC. i'm going to buy SDHC cards for it .

edit: i just bought a 16GB SDHC class6 card for it. prices were too close for the lower capacities.

You should visit. You too Phil. I'm sure all the "old timers" will be glad to see you.

Re: Do I need more than 1GB memory stick for Profile 2.x BD players?

I'd say you need more than 1GB. I don't download most of the BD-live content, but even with the few I have, I'm at 900MB on my PS3 (and yes, I've got plenty of room, I have a 60GB version). But if I'd gone with a standalone player with a 1GB stick, I'd basically be out. I think if I downloaded everything I owned (probably about 80-100 BDs, I've lost count) I'd be more in the 2-3GB range and growing.

ed, i'm still bitter about the racism there, but i don't want to bring up old memories =P. ce la vie as they say.

i was looking at 32GB, but they are $150. 16GB was around like 31ish. now2shabby. sandisk's 16GB was 15MB/s and was more 70ish, i don't think this BD player can write that fast.

Re: Do I need more than 1GB memory stick for Profile 2.x BD players?

Look around the web. I've seen 8GB sticks from places like Buy.com or in store at Frys for under $20, and 16GB sticks under $50. It's not worth it to go 32GB at this point. If you go to Best Buy or Radio Shack they'll sell you a 4GB for $24.99.

Re: Do I need more than 1GB memory stick for Profile 2.x BD players?

i bought a 16GB class 6 (around 8MB/s) for 31ish on the web. that's fine by me. the cost differential is too small for me from 1-16GB. 32GB is 5x to 6x the cost!!! anyways. it's on its way =P.
