1080p upconverting DVD player with 720p/1080i TV work?

I was thinking about purchasing this DVD player Newegg.com - PHILIPS DVP5982/37 1080p HDMI DivX Ultra Upconversion DVD Player to go with my 22" Vizio in my bedroom because it is cheap and has pretty good reviews, along with it upconverts DVDs to 1080p.

On the Vizio website however, VIZIO it says 1080i/720p signal processing for my particular TV model. Will this DVD player work with my Vizio even though it upconverts to 1080p and my Vizio says 1080i/720p?

All upconverting players will give an option for 720p output, as well as 1080p.
