Greetings,

My girlfriend bought be this Yamaha - 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker System - NS-SP7800PN for a Christmas present.

The specs say the speakers are all 6 ohms, but the Yamaha receivers such as Yamaha - 550W 5.1-Ch. A/V Home Theater Receiver - RX-V463BL are 105w x 5 at 8 ohms.

Why would the same company list specs for 6 ohms on speakers but 8 ohms for the receiver/amps?

Will that receiver work ok with those speakers?

What is 105w at 8 ohms when presented with a 6 ohm load?

Recommend a different receiver? Price range $200-400

Thanks in advance.

Re: New here, first post.

It will work fine. Companies generally rate the output at 8ohm because that is what most speakers nominally run at, but most are able to handle a 6ohm load, it just may have to work a bit harder. If you notice it going into protect mode at normal volumes then you should be concerned, but it should work fine. Enjoy the new system!

Edit: Actually, I just downloaded the manual for your receiver, and there is an impedance setting (which supports 6ohm speakers). You should be safe...
